Shocking in Chennai: A Class 2 student dies after school van runs over him...Parents demand action!

In what has become a horrible incident, a Class 2 student in Chennai was rammed over by his school van, leaving him dead on the spot. The incident has drawn major attention and the parents of the deceased boy are protesting with a demand for strong action against the school without which they won't receive the body.

According to reports, 8-year-old Theeksheth was a resident of Virugambakkam and was studying second grade in a private school in Alwarthirunagar in Chennai, was run over by his school van inside the campus on Monday - March 28. The accident has happened when the driver was reversing the vehicle. After dropping off the students in school in the morning hours of Monday, the van was reserving up during which the eight-year-old boy came under its wheels. 

The reports say that the driver was reversing the vehicle on his own without an assistant, who normally clear the way behind the vehicle, during which he had failed to notice the boy walking behind the van. It has been reported that the boy was disembarked from his van and moments later, he came back to the vehicle as he has left his bag in the van. The van driver, 64-year-old Poongavanam, didn't notice the boy coming back to the van and he reserved it and rammed on Theeksheth. 

The boy was caught under the wheel. He was immediately rushed to a private hospital after the accident. However, the doctors declared him brought dead. His body was later shifted to Government Royapettah Hospital to conduct an autopsy. After learning about the incident, the parents and relatives of the boy had stormed the school and begun protesting. They demanded the authorities take strict action against the school management. 

They said that the school management didn't inform the parents about the accident. Following their protest, the Valasaravakkam police station has filed an FIR based on the complaint and the driver of the van was arrested and taken under custody. The police have launched a probe into the incident and the parents and relatives of the boy had rushed to the hospital, where the body was kept.

They refused to take the body and urged the authorities to take action against the school. Theeksheth's mother Jennifer was broken after losing her only child and said, "They won't get the body until the correspondent and officials of the school management get arrested." Later, after the deliberation, the parents had accepted to take the body and following the autopsy, it was handed over to them. 

According to reports, the Chennai District Educational Officer (DEO) has visited the spot and the Director of Matriculation Schools has sought a report about the incident from the DEO. Following the incident, the higher officials of the School Education Department has convened a meeting and discussed the safety measures of the school vehicles. In its notice to the school management, the Director of Matriculation Schools has asked a slew of questions including why a person above 60 has been employed as a driver and why there was no speed breaker at the entrance of the school.
