Shocking: Cruelty at its peak! Elephant in TN set on fire...Watch the video

In a shocking development that showcased the grounds of the awful treatment and cruelty of wildlife in Tamil Nadu, the elephant in the Nilgiris district has died due to the fatal injuries that it sustained after a branch that was lit on fire was thrown on it to vacate the elephant from the locality in Nilgiris. The shocking visuals have emerged on Friday in which the elephant can be seen running from the spot with the fire on it. 

According to reports, the elephant had wandered into Masinagudi in the Nilgiris, hunting for food. When the officials found the elephant, it came to the revelation that the elephant had been injured for more than two months. The elephant later succumbed to the injuries and following the autopsy, it was found that the elephant had suffered severe injuries on the back two months ago and also had suffered burn injuries on the ears. 

The elephant had suffered drastic injuries and the details have now emerged concerning how the elephant has got fatal injuries. According to reports, the elephant had suffered injuries two weeks ago when it had wandered out of the Mudumalai Tiger Reserve zone into a residential area in search of food in the nearby town during the night hours. When it tried to enter the residential area, a branch that was lit with fire was thrown on her and a man can be heard saying 'let it go die'.  

The video, which was shot by a man from the terrace, shows that the elephant slowly walking back from the residential area when another was trying to drive the elephant away with the fire. He was seen carrying a piece of branch that was lit by fire. After seeing the fire, the elephant backs off from the fire and the man was seen holding the branch of fire and walking towards the elephant until it leaves the locality. When the elephant was seen backing off due to fire, the man had reportedly thrown the branch of fire on the elephant which landed on it.

Some reports say that the man had thrown a burnt tire on the elephant and with fire on its back, the elephant was seen screaming and running back into the woods with burn injuries and another man was heard saying, "That's it, let it go die". The elephant ran away from the spot by making a loud noise in pain. It sustained fatal injuries caused by the fire and its ear was severely damaged and she was wandering without disturbing anyone and recently, the elephant had passed away following which it was found that someone had set fire on it. 

The video of the incident has been getting widely shared with animal rights activists and environmentalists pressing the government to create strict laws and awareness to control such incidents. With the video as evidence, the police department has arrested two accused in connection to the incident. According to the press release from the deputy director of Mudumalai Tiger Reserve, the authorities received inputs and a video that shows the elephant getting injured by fire. 

Based on the evidence, the police had arrested two persons - Prasath (36) and Raymond Dean (28), while on more person Ricky Ryan was involved in this case and the case has been registered against the three and while the third person is not in town, the police will be remanding the other two arrested persons. The reports say that the accused were employees in a resort and they were running a homestay in the area. The authorities are in the process of remanding the three accused.
