Shocking: The IT raids at Kollywood financier GN Anbu Chezhiyan's properties exhume unaccounted cash of Rs 200 crore!

In a shocking piece of news, the incessant raids by the sleuths of the Income Tax Department at the properties that belong to Kollywood financer GN Anbu Chezhiyan have exhumed the amassed wealth of Chezhiyan including the unaccounted cash of a whopping Rs 200 crore. The raids were on an unprecedented scale as the Central agency targeted various Tamil producers from Kalaippuli S Thanu, SR Prabhu, and KE Gnanavel Raja besides Anbu Chezhiyan.

58-year-old Anbu Chezhiyan is a popular name in the Tamil film industry. He is a top financier who enjoys a close relationship with various actors and he is also producing movies under the banner 'Gopuram Films'. Being a controversial figure in Kollywood, Chezhiyan has a history of facing raids and he has also been accused of being a loan shark. Recently, he has become the talk of the town through the lavish wedding ceremony of her daughter. 

In the midst of such developments, a team of Income Tax officials has stormed into Chezhiyan's properties in Chennai and in Madurai with the allegation of tax evasion. Around 40 places that linked to Chezhiyan both in Chennai and Madurai were raided by the officials and the raids lasted for four consecutive days. The raids begin on August 2 and ended on August 5. On Saturday, the officials released a statement after the raids exhumed the amassed wealth of the financier. 

His residence and office at Chennai's T Nagar were under the scanner for the past four days and after the incessant raids, the Income Tax officials have said that they exhumed unaccounted cash of Rs 200 crore from Anbu Chezhiyan's properties. Besides the pile of cash, the officials have also recovered jewellery worth Rs 3 crore. It has also been reported that the Income Tax officials will be conducting raids at the residences of several producers in the coming days. 

In February 2020, the IT officials stormed into Chezhiyan's residence in Chennai after the release of actor Vijay starred 'Bigil'. During that time, the officials seized about Rs 65 crore in cash and besides, Chezhiyan, the Income Tax Department brought actor Vijay and the movie producer Kalpathi Agoram into the scanner.  Anbu Chezhiyan has been a top financier in the Tamil movie industry and he has backed several superhit movies. In November 2017, Anbu Chezhiyan was accused of abetting the suicide of producer Ashok Kumar, who committed suicide due to harassment by the financier over debts.
