Shocking: A police constable in Chennai threatens the Inspector at gunpoint!

In a shocking piece of news, a police constable in Chennai was booked by the city's law enforcement agency for threatening the inspector at gunpoint. A case was filed against the constable on Saturday with the allegation that he had intimidated the inspector for questioning him for talking on his mobile phone during duty hours. 

According to reports, Govindhan, a 2016-batch Tamil Nadu Special police constable, was stationed at the Pooamallee sub-jail, which houses the inmates who are facing the charges registered by the National Investigation Agency (NIA). The jail locates near Nazarethpet and on Saturday, Police Inspector Surendran Nair had come for a routine inspection at the prison premises and during the inspection, Nair had seen Govindhan talking on his mobile phone when the rest of the police officers had paid attention to the former. 

Though his peers were cooperating for the inspection, Govindhan didn't as he was busy talking on his mobile phone. When Surendran Nair had questioned Govindhan for using the mobile phone on-duty hours. Shockingly, Govindhan picked up an argument with Surendran Nair and both of them had held a war of words after which Govindan had pointed his service assault rifle towards the inspector and said that he would open fire on him if he uttered a single word. 

Shocked to witness the intimidation from a police constable, Nair went to the Nazarethpet police station and filed a complaint against Govindhan. Based on the complaint, a case was registered and a team led by Sub-Inspector Umarani took Govindhan to the Government Mental Health Hospital at Ayanavaram to conduct a detailed medical checkup. The police had launched further investigation into the matter. 

According to reports, Poonamallee sub-jail houses about 25 inmates including fundamentalists. Some of the high profile accused including Khaja Moideen, who was the mastermind of the murder of Special Sub-Inspector Y Wilson at Kaliyakavilai near Kanyakumari on January 8, 2020, are being detained in this sub-jail. The jail also houses nearly 30 inmates who are under quarantine temporarily and these inmates are charged and arrested for petty offences.
