Shocking in TN: A school student has died due to injuries after a fight with his schoolmates!

In a shocking piece of news, a 17-year-old student in the Tirunelveli district of Tamil Nadu has passed away on Saturday - April 30 due to the injuries that he sustained during a fight with his schoolmates. The police have booked a case and the three students, who were behind the incident, got arrested. 

According to reports, 17-year-old student Selvasurya was studying Class 11 at the Pallakkal Pothukudi Government Higher Secondary School near Ambasamuthiram in Tirunelveli. On April 25, he got into an altercation with three other students who questioned him for wearing a coloured thread on his wrist that implied his caste. This event of altercation over a thread was divulged by Selvasurya's mother in the FIR. 

The students had quarrelled with each other and as the fight had intensified, one of the accused had thrown stones at each other during which Selvasurya was injured on his head. With severe injuries, he was taken to the hospital and after five days of treatment, he had breathed his last on Saturday- April 30 due to the injuries.

It has been reported that Selvasurya belonged to the Thevar community, which is classified as an Other Backward Class (OBC) in Tamil Nadu. Of the three boys who were identified as the accused, one is from a Scheduled Caste (SC) and the other two are Muslims. The police had arrested them and a case has been registered against them under the sections 294(b) - obscene acts and songs, 324 - voluntarily causing hurt by dangerous weapons, 506 (ii) - punishment for criminal intimidation, and 302 - murder of the Indian Penal Code. 

As per the FIR, Selvasurya's mother had said that her son was approached by the three accused students near the bathroom for wearing a coloured thread on his wrist. When Selvasurya had questioned them, one of the three students took a stone and hit the victim on the head, near his left ear. Speaking to a news agency, the District Educational Officer has said that the incident has taken place inside the school campus during the interval time and that action has been taken against the teachers. He added that two physical education teachers were suspended in connection with the incident.
