In what has become a shocking turn in the murder of a DMK member in Chennai, the Tamil Nadu police have arrested an ADMK leader and six others in connection to the murder that happened on Tuesday in Madipakkam, Chennai. The police are probing the murder on the angles of personal disputes over real estate dealings and the political dispute at the backdrop of the upcoming urban local body polls.

On Tuesday- February 1, 48-year-old DMK member C Selvam was hacked to death by a gang at the Bazaar Road in Madipakkam. Selvam was serving as the DMK Secretary of the 188th ward in Rajaji Nagar. The incident had happened near his office in Madipakkam and the assailants had reached the area in a car and two two-wheelers and brutally attacked him to death.

Following the incident, the police were informed and they had rushed to the spot. They took Selvam to a private hospital. However, he was declared brought dead. After his demise was made public, a group of his supporters had held protests and they had broken liquor bottles on the road as they demanded the police to take action on the assailants. Owing to the signs of tensions, a league of police officers was deployed to the area to respond to untoward incidents.

The police have launched the investigation into Selvam's death and in the late-night hours of Thursday - February 3, the officials have arrested ADMK leader Radhakrishnan and his driver in the Samayapuram toll gate as Radhakrishnan has been suspected to be the main accused in the murder of DMK worker C Selvam. All of them are under police custody and IANS has quoted the sources in Medavakkam police saying that all seven of them are being questioned and the property dispute is stated to be the main motive behind the murder.

The police are investigating the disputes between Selvam and Radhakrishnan in the real estate dealings and earlier it was reported that Selvam and his wife Shameena were to be allotted seats in the urban local body polls, which could be the reason behind the dispute, that had abetted Radhakrishnan to kill Selvam.
