In a major setback, reputed playback singer SP Balasubrahmanyam's battle for survival has again taken a wrong turn as his health has worsened and declined further, as the development from nowhere had shocked his fans and fraternity, who have been hoping for his speedy recovery. 

On Thursday, MGM Healthcare hospital had released the statement concerning the health condition of the legendary singer in which it has put out the shocking news. In the bulletin, the hospital said, "Thiru SP Balasubrahmanyam who had been admitted at MGM Healthcare on August 5th, remains on ECMO and other life support measures".  

"His condition in the last 24 hours has deteriorated further warranting maximum life support and he is extremely critical. The team of experts at MGM Healthcare is closely monitoring his health condition", the hospital added. The 74-year-old singer had tested positive for the COVID-19 viral infection on August 5 and he has been hospitalized since then.

On August 14, his health had attained a setback and he was spelled at a critical state and moved to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) and he was placed under the support of a ventilator and ECMO. He has been under continuous monitoring by the team of doctors and the sudden deterioration had saddened millions of fans that he earned through his immense and unparalleled contribution in his career. 

Fans, celebrities, and fraternities have been extending their prayers and wishes to the legendary singer for his speedy recovery. Last month, Tamil Nadu had seen a mass prayer across the state where thousands had prayed for his quick and complete recovery. Two weeks later from when he attained a setback, his health had shown the signs of improvement and well responded to the treatment and became stable from critical. 

His son SP Charan, who releases the updates regarding his father's health, had on September 7 said that SPB had tested negative for the COVID-19 viral infection. Charan said that the singer has been on the path of recovery and he even celebrated his wedding anniversary at the hospital. Charan further stated that his father's lungs still needed to improve from the ailing state. 

The positive updates from Charan had brought a major relief to the fans who were expecting his complete recovery and hoped that he would soon come to the business in relishing them through his wonderful and sweet voice. In one of the updates, Charan further stated that SPB was listening to music and he was showing progress towards recovery. 

On September 22, Charan issued the update in which he stated that the singer was recovering well and was eager to leave the hospital. However, within two days, his health had again taken a wrong turn and attained a major setback. As the hospital said, the singer has currently been extremely critical and his health had deteriorated further, as the latest update had further disheartened his fans.
