With soaring cases, India is now the fifth worst-hit nation by COVID-19!

Exactly one day after becoming the sixth worst-hit nation by COVID-19 by surpassing Italy's tally, India has now replaced Spain and become the fifth country in the world with soaring high cases of the pandemic, overtaking the tally of one of the largely devasted European countries.

The country's never-wished surge at the global stage has come a day ahead of witnessing more relaxations to its lockdown and restrictions as the country would see the resumption of malls, religious places, places of worship, and restaurants on June 8 amid reeling through the peak of the outbreak. The highest spike of cases in the last 24 hours has resulted in transcending Spain and becoming the fifth worst-hit nation by the deadly virus.

According to the Union Health Ministry, the country has reported 9,971 cases in the last 24 hours till Sunday 8 am which had taken the country's tally past Spain by recording 2,46,628 cases so far. The country has also seen 287 fresh deaths in the last 24 hours which took the death toll to 6,929 - with more cases and deaths in Maharashtra.

The US-based Johns Hopkins University, which tracks the state of COVID-19 globally, has put out the global figures and according to the data, India has reported 5000 cases more than Spain, which is one of the European countries which have been facing huge challenges to combat the spread.

India shares the slot in the list of the top five countries with the United States, Brazil, Russia, and the United Kingdom as these powerful countries have emerged as the active grounds for the spread with a large contribution in the global tally.

On Friday, India has surpassed Italy's tally and became the sixth worst-hit nation and the country still has over 1,20,000 active cases in the albeit of claiming that it has a good recovery rate. Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, Delhi, and Gujarat are the top four Indian states reporting the biggest spikes for the past few days leaving India as the major country in the Asian continent to get largely affected by the virus.

The country is going through the fifth phase of the lockdown and the Center has imposed the restrictions in the containment zones and poured relaxations in the rest of the areas. On Monday, the country would resume the operations of malls, places of worship, and religious places nearly after two months of shut down.

The WHO has, on Friday, warned that India and some of the densely populated Asian countries are under the risk of witnessing an explosion of cases as the disease would bounce back when the countries relax the movement of people. According to the reports, India has a low mortality rate while compared to the top four worst-hit countries. With the current state, India is 40,000 cases away from the United Kingdom, which is in fourth place in the top five list.
