'Speak in Tamil, not Hindi': When A R Rahman picks up a banter with his wife at an award function!

Oscar-winning music director A R Rahman is in rain of awards and reception from several bodies as his movies from the immediate past and in the immediate future have become the talk of the Kollywood town. Rahman has been conferred with awards for his recent successful outings including Ponniyin Selvan Part 1 and Vendhu Thaninthadhu Kaadu.

In the midst of huge expectations for his musical masterpiece in Ponniyin Selvan Part 2, which is all set to hit the theaters on April 28, Rahman was recently honoured at an annual awards ceremony organized by Ananda Vikatan Cinema Awards in Chennai. Rahman was accompanied by his wife Saira Banu and when he was called to the stage, his wife Saira Banu had also joined him and it has become one among the rare public appearances by the couple. 

Accepting the award, Rahman said, "I don't like to watch my interviews again." Turning towards his wife, Rahman further said, "She keeps playing again and again and watching because she loves my voice." The audience had a wave of euphoria when their favourite Rahman was honoured and later, the host asked Saira to speak a few words about Rahman's voice. 

Before she could address the audience, Rahman made a banter and said, "Speak in Tamil, not Hindi", as she is not fluent in Tamil. Hearing it, the audience raised voice and Saira closed her eyes and said, "Oh my God." Saira then said that Rahman's voice is her favourite and that she fell in love with his voice. 

She said, "Good evening everyone. Sorry, I can't speak fluently in Tamil. So, please excuse me. I am super, super happy and excited because his voice is my favourite. I fell in love with his voice. That's all I can say." On the work front, Rahman's recent work Simbu starred 'Pathu Thala' had a wider reception from across and beyond the borders, and besides Ponniyin Selvan 2, Rahman is also composing music for Sivakarthikeyan starred 'Ayalaan' which will hit the theatres during Diwali 2023.
