'Stay in the post of treasurer'- DMK's Stalin orders Durai Murugan! Here's why

By citing that the party's general council meeting won't be able to convene currently to elect a new treasurer and general secretary in the wake of the Coronavirus outbreak, DMK President and Tamil Nadu Opposition leader MK Stalin has asked party's senior-most leader S Durai Murugan to stay in his post as party's treasurer.

According to the reports, Stalin has issued the order on Wednesday which has deferred the elevation of Durai Murugan to the post of party's General Secretary by succeeding departed long time General Secretary K Anbazhagan, who died on March 7. The order has come when the party marked 97th birth anniversary of former leader and Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Kalaignar Karunanidhi.

While one of the top posts in the party became vacant after the demise, it was speculated that Durai Murugan would be elevated to the post as he is the senior-most leader in the party's second line of the leadership.

Apparently, on March 15, Durai Murugan has moved his resignation from the post of the treasurer to Stalin and announced that he would contest in the party's election for the post of the General Secretary.   However, the election hasn't held in the wake of the lockdown and COVID-19 pandemic as the party has deferred the general council meet.

Highlighting that he has kept the decision on the resignation rendered by Durai Murugan as treasurer pending, Stalin said he has ordered Durai Murugan to continue as treasurer as the party couldn't able to convene the general council meeting in the wake of the pandemic.
