Subbiah's appointment to AIIMS Madurai: Amid strong flak, he has got one voice of support!

When thousands in Tamil Nadu had flayed the Central government for its order of appointing Dr. Subbiah Shanmugam to the board of newly constructing AIIMS in Madurai, BJP's student wing Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) had welcomed the decision and elevation of Subbiah, who is the surgical oncologist in Government's Kilpauk medical college and hospital in Chennai.

Besides being a doctor, Subbiah Shanmugam has been serving as the National President of ABVP, which is one of the powerful wings of BJP, having a strong affiliation with RSS. In what has become a war of words between ABVP and DMK that centered over his appointment, the ABVP had alleged that DMK and its allies have stirred the controversy over his appointment.

Subbiah Shanmugam has recently drawn massive accusations across the state after he was accused of harassing an elderly woman and urinating at her doorstep in Chennai. While he was flayed for his unruly behavior, the sudden elevation for the board of the first All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in Tamil Nadu which would be constructed in Madurai, had triggered more anger and outrage from the state against the Central government.

The state opposition parties and the activists have been castigating the Center for elevating him despite the allegations around him and have been urging the government to withdraw his appointment. Amid deep flak and outrage surfaced around him, he has got a voice of support from ABVP, which welcomed the appointment.

In its statement, ABVP has said that some of the social elements want to create unrest and to malign Dr.Subbiah's career, and to derail the developmental activities in establishing AIIMS- Madurai. These parties are unnecessarily pulling the personal issues into his professional career. The BJP's student wing had alleged that the actions from DMK had caused damage to him and disturbed his family.

It has further stated that the DMK has been stirring the controversy against Dr. Subbiah based on the complaint of harassing the woman, which was already resolved. Retorting the allegations, DMK's spokesperson had said that Dr. Subbiah's unruly behavior of urinating at the doorstep of the woman was widely spread on social media as the CCTV footage had captured that he was urinating at the doorstep and the opposition party said that Subbiah, who harassed woman, is not deserved to the post of a board member in AIIMS, Madurai.

According to reports, in July this year, Subbiah caught with controversy through his obnoxious act of harassing a senior woman citizen in Chennai by throwing garbage in front of her door. After having been harassed by him, the nephew of the affected senior woman had approached the police station and filed a complaint against Dr. Subbiah for his action of urinating before her residence. However, the complaint was later taken back by the nephew after they had faced huge pressure to withdraw the complaint. In her complaint, the nephew said that Subbiah had harassed the elderly woman following an argument between the two over using the parking space in their apartment premises.

The complainant said that Dr. Subbiah had left the garbage outside the door of the elderly woman's residence and urinated in front of the door. The complainant had also attached the CCTV footage in which Dr. Subbiah was seen urinating in front of the door. However, Subbiah had denied the allegations and maintained that this video evidence is fake and has been fabricated and said that the complaint was baseless.
