Super cyclone 'Amphan' over the Bay of Bengal: Will Tamil Nadu be affected?

As Cyclone Amphan is likely to get severe by Monday evening, the states that share the Bay of Bengal have been alerted and the situation and the developments have been monitored by the meteorological department.

However, the Tamil Nadu government has asserted that the state will not get affected by the cyclone, which has intensified into a super cyclone. Tamil Nadu Revenue Minister Udayakumar has said that the state will be having no impact of this cyclone and the government and the India Meteorological Department have been closely monitory the eyes and movements of the cyclone.

The Minister stated that people will be kept informed. According to the reports, the cyclone will hit the coasts of Bangladesh, West Bengal, and Odisha and these coasts will be witnessing heavy rainfall for the next two days. The Home Ministry said that the cyclone will become a very severe one with a wind speed up to 185 km per hour on Wednesday.

Udhayakumar further stated that Tamil Nadu hasn't seen any warning concerning the high temperature. The reports stated that the Odisha government has rolled out the evacuation process of rescuing people from the vulnerable regions and the state has directed the fishermen not to hit the sea till May 21st. 

The National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) has deployed 37 special NDRF teams to seven districts of Odisha and six districts of West Bengal in the wake of the super cyclone. The Kerala government and state's disaster agency had advised people living in the coastal regions to stay vigil and nine districts of Kerala have been issued with yellow alert as the meteorological department had predicted rainfall in the nine districts in the next 24 hours.

On Monday evening, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has chaired a high-level meeting to review the response measures against Cyclone Amphan in the Bay of Bengal with the Ministry of Home Affairs and National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA).
