For all binge-watchers and cinema fans, get ready for what would become one of the lifetime treats. The new normal has opened the gate for new possibilities in the cinema industry and while the industry had begun to gradually walk on the new leg of the OTT platforms in the absence of theatres, it has now strongly settled down with the streaming platforms to take the movies directly to the hands of the fans and audiences.
The new normal has also given the space for the industry to explore the untouched subject of 'Anthology'. There were some of the movies in Tamil that defined Anthology and the response from the fans for such movies were promising to the moviemakers. As the sequel of that, the fans are getting ready to watch an unprecedented unification of prominent stars for the first time for an anthology titled 'Navarasa'.
Navarasa is produced by reputed directors Mani Ratnam and Jayendra Panchapakesan. As the title reveals, Navarasa is an anthology of nine stories based on nine human emotions. The nine stories will be directed by nine directors - Gautam Menon, Karthick Subbaraj, Vasanth, Priyadarshan, Bejoy Nambiar, Arvind Swami, Karthick Naren, Rathindran Prasad, and Sarjun KM.
While the anthology had brought in a battalion of directors together, the stories will be starred by a fleet of popular actors - Suriya, Vijay Sethupathi, Yogi Babu, Vijay Sethupathi, Aditi Balan, Rohini, Karthick Krishna, Ramya Nambeesan, Revathy, Delhi Ganesh, Ashok Selvan, Bobby Simhaa, Rithvika, Prasanna, Parvathy, Atharvaa, Anjali, and Kishore. Besides them, directors Gautam Menon and Arvind Swami will be acting in their respective stories.
Through Navarasa, Arvind Swami debuts as a director. The massive project was under the making for several months and the makers had decided to release Navarasa directly on Netflix. Amid major expectations on when the movie will be released, the official announcement has now been made by the team. On Friday- July 9, Netflix has unveiled the teaser of Navarasa and announced that the anthology will be released on August 6 on its platform.
Navarasa is all set for a grand release and taking to Twitter on Friday, Netflix said, "Idhuku mela namba idha sollaama irukka mudiyadhu! #Navarasa from 6th August." According to reports, the anthology was conceptualized by Mani Ratnam and Jayendra Panchapakesan to aid the industry workers who are affected and facing distress due to the COVID-19 pandemic and restrictions.
Neither directors nor the actors of the movie will receive remuneration for their work. The teaser is a prefix of what has been predicted as a single-screen ride of nine human emotions - anger, compassion, peace, courage, disgust, fear, love, wonder, and laughter. In what has become a perfect pool of music directors, Oscar winner AR Rahman, D Imman, Ghibran, Aruldev, Karthik, Ron Ethan Yohann, Govind Vasantha, and Justin Prabhakaran will be composing music for this anthology.
The revenue from Navarasa will be donated to the workers of the Tamil film industry. Navarasa was predicted to get released earlier during Pongal. However, it got delayed due to the post-production work, and now, the significant anthology treat has been baked to serve to the fans and audiences on August 6 on Netflix.
