Suriya, the National Award-winning actor who has enthralled the audiences with his diverse and powerful performances, is all set to dazzle them again with his upcoming magnum opus Kanguva. The film, which is directed by Siva and written by Adi Narayana, is a period action drama that features Suriya in five different roles in 1678.

The film also marks the Tamil debut of Bollywood beauty Disha Patani, who plays a researcher in the present day. The latest sources says that as a birthday special for Suriya, who turns 48 on July 23, 2023, the makers of Kanguva are planning to release a grand promo with a look reveal of his characters.

The film’s shooting is progressing at a brisk pace and is expected to be wrapped up by November 2023. The next schedule will begin this week in EVP Film City in Chennai, where a grand set has been erected for the shoot. The shoot will happen for eight days in this set, which resembles a palace from the 17th century. After that, the team will move to Kodaikanal again for the period portions, which were earlier shot in Goa and Kerala.

Suriya plays Arathar, Venkaater, Mandaankar, Mukaatar and Perumanathar, five warriors who are connected by a mysterious disease that killed them in 1678. Disha Patani, who makes her Tamil debut with this film, plays a researcher who investigates the disease in the present day. The film also features Yogi Babu, Redin Kingsley, Kovai Sarala, Anandaraj, Ravi Raghavendra, K. S. Ravikumar and B. S. Avinash in supporting roles.

The film’s music is composed by Devi Sri Prasad, who has reportedly recorded six songs for the album. The cinematography is handled by Vetri Palanisamy and the editing by Nishadh Yusuf. The film’s visual effects are supervised by Kamalakannan, who has previously worked on films like Baahubali and 2.0. Kanguva is produced by K. E. Gnanavel Raja of Studio Green and V. Vamsi Krishna Reddy and Pramod Uppalapati of UV Creations.
