Surprise! This Ulaganayagan’s cult thriller to return to theatres!

The trend of re-releasing fan favorite movies is gaining momentum in the film industry, especially in the wake of the pandemic that has affected the theatrical business. Many filmmakers and producers are opting to re-release their old hits, either in their original or remastered versions, to cater to the nostalgia and demand of the fans who want to relive the cinematic experience on the big screen. 

Now the moviebuffs are in for a treat as his blockbuster film Vettaiyaadu Vilaiyaadu is all set to re-release in theatres on June 23, 2023. The film, which was released in 2006, was a huge hit and received critical acclaim for its chilling story, realistic portrayal of police investigation. 

The re-release is supposed to be a remastered version of the film, with enhanced sound and picture quality. The film’s cinematographer Ravi Varman, who won several awards for his work in the film, has supervised the remastering process. The film’s music composer Harris Jayaraj, who delivered a chartbuster album, where it still have the special space for the fans' favorite list.

The re-release is presented by Manickam Narayan, who produced the film under the Seventh Channel Communications banner. YMR Creations and KM Sundaram Pictures are handling the distribution and marketing of the film. 

Vettaiyaadu Vilaiyaadu follows DCP Raghavan (Haasan), who is assigned to track down a serial killer who kidnaps and murders women in New York. The film also stars Jyothika as Raghavan’s love interest, Kamalinee Mukherjee and Prakash Raj as the crucial supporting role, and Daniel Balaji and Salim Baig as their accomplices. The film had neo-noir themes and explored the psychology of the killers and their motives.

The re-release comes at a time when Kamal Haasan is busy with his upcoming project, including the political drama Indian 2, directed by Shankar. Haasan is also expected to reunite with Menon for a sequel to Vettaiyaadu Vilaiyaadu, which is reportedly in the scripting stage.

At the audio launch of Silambarasan TR's Vendhu Thanindhathu Kaadu The actor said, "Gautham Menon had shared an idea for Vettaiyaadu Vilaiyaadu 2 a couple of years back. I had asked him to finish the complete script and come back to me. Your favorite writer Jeyamohan sir is writing the script, sir. It will reach you soon."
