Suspended TN BJP leader Gayathri Raghuram quits the party: How her statement is troubling Annamalai?

Six weeks after getting suspended from the party, Tamil Nadu BJP leader Gayathri Raghuram has on Tuesday - January 3 announced that she is quitting from the party and has thrown a bombshell against Tamil Nadu BJP President Annamalai whose leadership is already taking skew and shaky turns with back-to-back political setbacks.

Gayathri Raghuram's accusation has fueled the friction against Annamalai and taking a jibe against the latter's leadership, Gayathri said that women are not safe under Annamalai's leadership and neither the women are respected. Her statement has come when women leaders are condemning the events happening under Annamalai's watch and earlier, Gayathri has urged the Tamil Nadu police to conduct an investigation into Annamalai's personal attack on women.

On Tuesday, Gayathri made a series of tweets in which she slammed Annamalai as a 'cheap tactic liar and adharmic leader'. Announcing about quitting the party, Gayathri wrote, "I have taken the decision with heavy heart to resign from TNBJP for not giving opportunity for an enquiry, equal rights & respect for women. Under Annamalai leadership women are not safe. I feel better to be trolled as an outsider." By flaying Annamalai, Gayathri left a note of praise for Prime Minister Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah.

Tagging Modi and Amit Shah, she wrote, "Nobody cares about true karyakartas, the only goal is to chase away true karyakartas by Annamalai. I wish the best for BJP. Modi Ji, you are special, you are father of nation. You will always be my vishwa guru & great leader. Amit Shah Ji you will always remain my chanakya guru." Thanking Annamalai for pushing her to take this decision, Gayathri said, "Today I took this hasty decision & credit goes to Annamalai. Further I want to care less about Annamalai. He is Cheap tactic liar and adharmic leader. Thanking all the karyakartas whom I worked with for 8 years whom I shared great love & respect with. It was a great journey."

"Hurting others is not Hindu dharma. I cannot continue under Annamalai leadership, cannot expect social justice. Women stay safe, don't trust that someone will save you. No one is going to come. You are on your own. Believe yourself. Never stay where you are not respected. I’m ready to raise a police complaint To surrender all videos and audio’s. And to further investigate Annamalai. Sick person. And on War room which is troubling me", Gayathri added.

The war room within the Tamil Nadu BJP is as viral as Annamalai and Annamalai has been accused of tasking his loyalists in the party to work for powering his leadership through the war room. Annamalai's war room is said to be packed by BJP functionaries who are actively working to promote Annamalai and there were several allegations against Annamalai that he is investing more funds from the party to promote him and working on to sideline senior leaders.

Hours after announcing her decision to quit the party, Gayathri Raghuram put another tweet in which she wrote, "I strongly believe Hindu Dharma in my heart and conscience. I don’t need to search for it in an political party, I rather go to temple in search of God and Dharma. God is everywhere. God is with me. "Justice delayed is justice denied". Several BJP women cadres are divided over the accusation from Gayathri Raghuram with some slamming her for losing credibility.

Last week, on December 29, Gayathri Raghuram hinted that she will leave the party. Taking to Twitter, she wrote, "Under Annamalai Ji's leadership, we get worst and disgusting personal attack from war room. I request Tamil Nadu police to do enquiry. They are passing slur comments on women." Looking back at her political tenure, Gayathri Raghuram joined BJP in 2014 in the presence of the then BJP national president Amit Shah.

In November 2015, she was appointed as Tamil Nadu BJP's secretary of arts and five years later, she was made as president of Arts and Culture Wing of Tamil Nadu BJP. She had been a controversial political figure and friction between Gayathri and Annamalai began last February over the appointments of new executives. In May 2022, Annamalai fired Gayathri from the post of the president of Arts and Culture Wing. After she expressed displeasure, she was made the leader of Tamil development wing of other states and abroad in June 2022.

However, in November 2022, Gayathri Raghuram was suspended from the party after she criticized Annamalai for awarding a post to Suriya Siva, whose abusive and threatening talk against a woman functionary was going viral. Gayathri condemned Suriya Siva and urged the state leadership to take action. However, Annamalai suspended Gayathri from the party for six months. Six weeks after her suspension, she has now announced that she is quitting the party and made a flabbergasted accusation against Annamalai.
