On Wednesday, Tamil Nadu Health Minister Ma Subramanian has inspected the city's first Covid-19 containment zone formed since lifting the lockdown restrictions during the second wave.

In a televised address on Saturday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has announced that the vaccination against Covid-19 for children between 15-18 years will begin from January 3, 2022.

While Vadivelu had on Friday tested positive for the pandemic, director Suraaj had confirmed to have contracted the viral infection on Sunday and he is also been hospitalized.

According to Union Health Ministry, India has reported 236 cases of the Omicron variant so far as of Thursday of which 104 people have been recovered.

The order from the Prime Minister has come when several states are reinstating the lockdowns and night curfews to tackle the Omicron variant. 

Chennai has been reporting a surge in the Omicron cases and of the total 34 cases, Chennai has recorded 27 cases while four cases were from Madurai, two cases from Thiruvannamalai, and one case from Salem.

India has reported 12 new cases of Omicron on Wednesday alone with four cases each in Maharashtra and Kerala, two in Telangana, and one each in West Bengal and Tamil Nadu.
