PTR wrote on social media, "When tragedies occur, the humane, quintessentially Tamil response is to aid the victims as if they were members of our immediate family." 

While the Railway Department has announced a compensation of Rs 10 lakh each to the family members of the deceased, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin announced a solatium of Rs 3 lakh.

The goods train was carrying limestones and though the cause for the derailment wasn't clear, the matter is being probed by the concerned authorities.
