Tears, hugs, and celebrations...MK Stalin's swearing-in ceremony turns emotional and a family reunion!

DMK President MK Stalin has on Friday sworn in as the 12th Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu at a ceremony held in Raj Bhavan, Chennai. He took oath as the Chief Minister at around 9.30 am on Friday and Governor Banwarilal Purohit has administered the oath of office and secrecy for Stalin and for 33 cabinet ministers. Stalin has assumed the Office of the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu for the first time, which has become a historical milestone in his political career.

Stalin's cabinet is packed with 15 new faces, nearly 50% of his total cabinet berth. The ceremony was kept non-lavish in light of the COVID-19 pandemic and the authorities had deployed strict security and protocols measures during the entire duration. The event was kept under a tight radar and Raj Bhavan had mandated every participant to produce the COVID-19 negative test report and advised to wear masks and observe social distancing during the ceremony.

Around 200 people had participated in the ceremony and besides being a historical swearing-in ceremony, it was ended to be an emotional and family reunion event. MK Stalin's entire family including his wife Durga Stalin and his son Udhayanidhi Stalin was present in the ceremony. It was emotional for the family members as when Stalin took oath as the Chief Minister, his wife Durga Stalin has broken down in tears and Udhayanidhi Stalin was also seen getting emotional when his father assumed the state's second-highest constitutional office after the Governor.

As Stalin has marked the remarkable feat in his political career, the DMK members across the state had unveiled celebrations. Apart from going emotional, the ceremony has also gone close to a family reunion as MK Stalin's family had exchanged greetings with his estranged brother MK Alagiri's family. Alagiri had observed a feud with Stalin for over many years and it was escalated after the demise of their father M Karunanidhi and after Stalin rose to lead the party.

As Stalin had contested in the legislative elections as the Chief Ministerial candidate of the DMK, Alagiri went on to vow that he will never let Stalin become the Chief Minister and further claimed that Stalin would remain as the future CM. Alagiri was under speculations that he will launch a new political party against Stalin to contain the rise of the latter and he was also surfaced with the anticipations that he will support BJP in the elections. However, nothing had happened and Alagiri had neither stopped Stalin from becoming the Chief Minister nor contained his rise.

On Thursday, exactly a day ahead of the swearing-in, MK Alagiri had apparently wished his younger brother MK Stalin for becoming the Chief Minister, and his wishes had become a sign of mitigating the feud. In his wish, Alagiri said, "Congratulations to my younger brother MK Stalin. I'm proud of my brother who is going to become the Chief Minister. DMK President Stalin will definitely deliver a good rule." His wish would obviously have surprised Stalin and according to reports, Stalin has invited his elder brother for the swearing-in ceremony.

However, Alagiri had replied that he won't be attending the ceremony in light of the Covid pandemic and he assured that he will send his children for the ceremony. As assured, Alagiri's son Durai Dayanidhi and his daughter Kayalvizhi had attended Stalin's swearing-in ceremony at Raj Bhavan. It was in fact a family reunion for both the families as they are meeting in person after several years. Alagiri's son Dayanidhi and Stalin's son Udhayanidhi had exchanged brotherly greetings and hugged each other to celebrate the moment.

The visuals of the reunion have been going viral on social media as they had stirred hope among the DMK members that the estranged relationship of both the brothers will soon come to an end. The family members believe that the reunion of the brothers is in sight through Stalin's historical milestone. On the front of governance, Chief Minister MK Stalin will be convening his first cabinet meeting at 4 pm on Friday to discuss and take stock of the Covid situation in the state and framing new strategies and measures to contain the second wave of the pandemic.
