Thalaivar in Wankhede: Rajinikanth flies to cheer for India in World Cup semi-final

The cricket fever has gripped the nation as India faces New Zealand in the ICC World Cup 2023 semi-final at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. Among the thousands of fans who have thronged the venue to witness the high-octane clash, there is one special guest who has flown all the way from Chennai to support the Men in Blue. He is none other than the Thalaivar of Tamil cinema, Superstar Rajinikanth.

The 73-year-old actor, who is known for his charismatic screen presence and larger-than-life persona, arrived in Mumbai with his family members on Wednesday morning. As he strolled through the airport, his blue T-shirt and cap perfectly complemented his trademark sunglasses and infectious smile. Despite his age, he moved with the same grace and energy as someone half his years. Boarding the flight, he showed no signs of fatigue, leaving onlookers in awe of his vitality.

Rajinikanth is an avid cricket lover and has often expressed his admiration for the Indian team and its captain Virat Kohli. He has also shared a cordial relationship with some of the legendary cricketers, worth mentioning that he worked with legendary former cricketer Kapil Dev, in Lal Salaam, directed by his daughter Aishwarya Rajinikanth. 

Also Sachin Tendulkar and David Beckham, who are also present at the stadium to watch the match. Rajinikanth is expected to cheer for India from the VIP box, along with other celebrities and dignitaries. Meanwhile, in an interesting revelation, filmmaker Gautham Vasudev Menon, who joined RJ Balaji for commentary as a guest.

The director spilled a surprise fact that he had initially narrated the script of his spy thriller Dhruva Natchathiram to Rajinikanth, after Suriya had turned it down. However, the project did not take off and Rajinikanth went on to do Kabali with Pa Ranjith. Dhruva Natchathiram, which stars Vikram in the lead role, is still in the making and is expected to release on 24th November 2023.

Rajinikanth, who was last seen in Jailer, directed by Nelson Dhilipkumar has released in August and grossed 500 crores and more worldwide, and he is working with TJ Gnanavel for Thalaivar 170, and he will be next seen in Lal Salaam, which is coming to theatres on Pongal 2024, and the Superstar will be working with Lokesh Kanagaraj for Thalaivar 171.
