This Thalapathy Vijay’s film breaks all records and becomes the highest-grossing movie in India

Varisu, the latest film of Thalapathy Vijay, has emerged as the undisputed box office king of South India. The family entertainer, which released on January 11, 2023, has achieved a remarkable feat of becoming the second highest-grossing movie of 2023 in India, after Pathaan It has also become Vijay’s highest-grossing film ever, surpassing his previous blockbuster Master.

According to the financial report of India’s largest multiplex partner PVR Cinemas, Varisu stands at No. 2 in All India and No. 1 in South India at the Indian box office in Q4 2023. The film has collected a whopping Rs. 300.98 crores gross worldwide, as per the official announcement by the production house Sri Venkateswara Creations. Shah Rukh Khan starrer Pathaan stands first in the list, whereas the Ajith starrer Thunivu stands fifth , 

The film has also earned rave reviews from critics and audiences alike for its engaging story, stellar performances, and catchy music. Varisu is directed by Vamshi Paidipally and stars Rashmika Mandanna as the female lead opposite Vijay.

The film revolves around a businessman who suffers from a rare disease and has to choose his successor from his three sons. The film also features an ensemble cast of Sarathkumar, Prakash Raj, Jayasudha, Yogi Babu, Shaam, Srikanth, and Ganesh Venkatram in pivotal roles. The music is composed by Thaman.

Varisu has faced tough competition from Ajith Kumar’s Thunivu, which released on the same day. However, Varisu has managed to outshine Thunivu in terms of collections and popularity.  Varisu is now the fourth highest-grossing Tamil movie of all time, after 2.0 (Rs. 700 crores+), Ponniyin Selvan 1 (Rs. 450 crores+), and Vikram (Rs. 400 crores+).

Varisu has also performed exceptionally well in overseas markets, especially in Kerala and Telugu states, where it has collected over Rs. 50 crores each. The film has also earned nearly Rs. 90 crores in international markets, making it one of the most successful Tamil films abroad.
