Thank you, Captain Dhoni for yellovely era...A look back at MS Dhoni's glorious captaincy of CSK!

Chennai Super Kings, which is one of the successful IPL teams, has on Thursday witnessed an end of the era as MS Dhoni has relinquished his captaincy of CSK and with that, the captaincy of a legendary captain has come to an end in cricket. Dhoni has retired in all forms of cricket in 2020 and he was captaining CSK following his retirement. As he has now handed over the captaincy of CSK, he is no longer the captain of any form of cricket.

Historically, his captaincy rose to prominence after the Indian cricket team won the debut T20 world cup in 2007 under his leadership. Now, his captaincy has come to an end after CSK lifted the IPL trophy for the fourth time in 2021. In what has become a captaincy record at its best, Dhoni has been the best and most successful leader on and off the court and the finest sportsman.

While MS Dhoni has been a legendary captain for the Indian cricket team, he has shelved remarkable milestones through his IPL captaincy. Dhoni took over as the CSK captain in 2008 since its inception and barring two years when the team was banned, he remained as a successful captain of IPL. Under his captaincy, CSK has won four titles and still enjoys the tag of being the only team that entered the IPL finals more times. Let's take a look at MS Dhoni's record-breaking captaincy of CSK,

Under his captaincy, CSK has played 204 matches of which, the team has won 121 matches with a significant winning percentage of 59.60. As the CSK captain, Dhoni stands second by winning four IPL titles- 2010, 2011, 2018, and 2021 after Mumbai's Rohit Sharma, who has won five titles. During the IPL 2021 final against Kolkata Knight Riders, Dhoni became the first-ever cricketer to play 200 IPL matches as captain and also the oldest skipper to win the tournament.

Besides being a most successful captain of IPL, Dhoni has scored 4456 runs as the skipper and it must be noted that the runs include the tenure he played for Pune Super Giants while the CSK was banned. As the captain of CSK for 12 seasons, he has taken the team to nine IPL finals and he had driven the team towards a strong comeback from their ban and the team returned to the battle in 2018 and ended up winning its third title.

When the news of his decision to relinquish CSK's captaincy came out, the fans went emotional as they are getting ready to spectacle the upcoming IPL season without his leadership. They are sharing how they engulfed the transition on social media. A user wrote, "CSK is the golden part of Dhoni's captaincy legacy. CSK achieved everything under him. Don't like this decision one bit as this is probably his last season in the IPL as well. Truly the end of an era. Dhoni is, Dhoni was, and Dhoni will be CSK."

Another user wrote, "MS Dhoni started his captaincy stint with a trophy and ended it the same way. Poetic." The other one wrote, "MS Dhoni has left a legacy behind which is incredibly tough for anyone to reach. 12 seasons as CSK captain, 9 finals and 4 trophies. Mad success as a captain, one of the masterminds of the game." Another user wrote, "It is going to be so weird not seeing Dhoni and Kohli walking out for CSK vs RCB toss. Used to be a wholesome moment."

Dhoni has handed over the trophy to all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja, who is one of the favourite players in CSK. With the new role, Jadeja makes history by becoming the third player to lead CSK after MS Dhoni and Suresh Raina, who led the team for a brief tenure. The announcement of the change of captaincy has swiftly drawn nationwide attention. In an official statement, CSK has said, "MS Dhoni has decided to hand over the leadership of Chennai Super Kings and picked Ravindra Jadeja to lead the team. Jadeja, who has been an integral part of Chennai Super Kings since 2012, will only be the third player to lead CSK. Dhoni will continue to represent Chennai Super Kings this season and beyond."

The change of baton wasn't predicted and the reports say that Dhoni has decided to bring the second-line leadership to the front of the battle as the CSK is all set to take on the Kolkata Knight Riders on March 26 - Saturday as the season opener in Mumbai. Unlike the previous seasons, the current edition of IPL will bring in ten teams, with the induction of two new teams and the teams were split up into two groups.

As the defending champions, CSK is ready to face the battle under the new leadership with Dhoni remaining as a batsman. As a most successful all-rounder, Jadeja was bought by CSK in 2012 for Rs 9.8 crore, making him the most expensive player of that auction. He has been a gamechanger for the CSK in several matches and won a respectable legacy and prominence among Indian cricket fans.
