When the news of ADMK MLA Prabhu's love marriage became the talk of the town after he tied the knot by breaking the caste lines, the wedding had sparked controversy after the bride's father alleged that the legislator had abducted his daughter and forced to marry him. 

Prabhu had drawn a light after the bride's father Swaminathan had threatened that he would set fire on him at the wedding venue. Prabhu (36) is the youngest legislator in the current assembly and has been serving from the Kallakurichi constituency. He was nominated as the ADMK candidate by the then Chief Minister Jayalalithaa. He was in a relationship with 19-year-old Soundarya, who has been in her second year in college. 

Prabhu and Soundarya are a native of Thiyagadurugam in Kallakurichi district of Tamil Nadu. Soundarya, whose father is the priest at the local temple, belongs to the upper caste whereas Prabhu belongs to the lower caste. They decided to get married and they got married on Monday - October 5 at Prabhu's residence in the presence of Prabhu's family and relatives. 

As Soundarya's father Swaminathan had opposed the marriage, he arrived at Prabhu's house on Monday amid the wedding ceremony, doused himself in kerosene like substance, and threatened to set himself on fire after he accused Prabhu of abducting his daughter and forcing her to get him married. Amid the allegations, he tied the knot with Soundarya and officially announced that he has got married by posting the pictures on his social media handle.

The developments had stirred controversy around the ADMK legislator, pushing him to release a video after the marriage. Speaking to the media, Soundarya's father Swaminathan said that Prabhu had lured his daughter with kind words and abducted her on October 1 at around 4 pm. Prabhu has been friendly with his family for the past 15 years and he has been in love with his daughter for the past four years when the latter was a minor. 

By asserting that caste was not an issue for him, Swaminathan said that the main reason for his opposition was their age difference. According to reports, the people who attended the wedding had prevented Swaminathan from executing his threat of setting himself on fire and they had taken him to the local police station after which the police had filed an FIR against the bride's father under section 309 - attempt to suicide of the Indian Penal Code.

After he has been surfaced with allegations leveled by Swaminathan, ADMK MLA Prabhu had released a video in which he had negated such allegations. In his video, he can be seen sitting next to Soundarya and said, "There have been some rumors on the marriage that I kidnapped Soundarya, threatened to kill her, and forcing her to marry me. All that did not happen". 

"We have been in love for the past four months. When I approached her family, asking her hand in marriage, her family had refused after which we decided to get married with my parent's permission. I did not threaten her or her family in the marriage. We fell in love and married each other", Prabhu adds while Soundarya was sitting next to him. However, she didn't speak about the allegations from her father. The reports say that Prabu's father Ayappa has been one of the ADMK secretaries in the district and he has been holding the post nearly for ten years.
