Tihar bars Chidambaram's acquittal!

Former Indian Finance minister P Chidambaram is two days away from marking his first month under custodial detention of the Central Bureau of Investigation in INX Media case and today, in the wake of concluding his judicial custody in Tihar, he was produced before the Delhi CBI court where the special court, with accordance from the arguments by the investigative agency, had extended his judicial custody till October 3, 2019 in what it appears as the former minister will be locked up again in Tihar along with his hope of getting acquitted.

While hearing the case, the Solicitor General Tushar Mehta who represented the CBI had pleaded the court to extend the judicial custody for the former minister by stating that there are no changes of circumstances towards the investigations for alleged crime since he was lodged in Tihar.

Rebutting his arguments, the chief of Chidambaram's legal team and senior advocate Kabil Sibal had condemned the petition of the investigative agency for acquiring extension of judicial custody. He stated that the 74 year old Congress leader has been diagnosed with multiple ailments and had lost weight during his custodial interrogation and in his Tihar confinement since September 5th, 2019 and further demanded the court to permit the leader for medical check up at AIIMS.

Solicitor General Tushar Mehta had assured the court that the jail authorities will place adequate and regular medical checkups as per the law and stood with the stand of CBI that the former minister must be remanded with judicial custody. After hearing the arguments, Justice Ajay Kumar Kuhar had pronounced the judgement by extending the judicial custody for P Chidambaram till October 3, 2019 and further ordered the jail authorities to perform continuous medical examination in his jail course.

Chidambaram has been under the hands of embarrassments since last month when the Central Bureau of Investigation had tightened its investigation grids on the INX Media case, which was accused for acquiring exorbitant overseas funds from Mauritius than what was permitted to acquire from the licence of Foreign Investment Promotion Board through the mediation of Karti Chidambaram when Chidambaram was Indian Finance minister in 2007 and in the year 2017, the CBI had filed a complaint against Chidambaram and his son and on the other hand, the Enforcement Directorate also booked a case against Chidambaram in 2018 under the grounds of money laundering.

With accordance to the complaint filed, the Central Bureau of Investigation had arrested P Chidambaram from his Jor Bagh residence in Delhi on August 21st after the Delhi High court had rejected his anticipatory bail petition.
