TN Police arrest an ADMK district secretary...Here's what happened!

The Tamil Nadu police arrested an ADMK district secretary on Friday - July 1 on the grounds of opening the under-repair flyover without proper consent from the concerned authorities. The event has sparked a row between the major parties of the state with ADMK's Edappadi Palaniswami having slammed the DMK government for the arrest.

According to reports, the Katpadi police department in Vellore has arrested SRK Appu, who was ADMK's Vellore urban district secretary. He was arrested in the evening hours of Friday and it has been reported that Appu in the presence of his supporters had inaugurated the flyover by cutting a ribbon in the morning hours of Friday and the event of his inauguration has triggered a quarrel between the cadres of both DMK and ADMK.

Following the quarrel, the police have arrived at the spot and mitigated the altercation. Vellore DMK MP Kathir Anand had earlier announced the opening of the flyover across the talks adjacent to Katpadi railway station from July 1. On Thursday- July 30, Vellore District Collector Kumaravel Pandian had inspected the flyover and on the same day, Kathir Anand announced that the flyover would be opened for two-wheelers from Friday.

The flyover was closed for over a month, which created a traffic ruckus and in his official statement on Thursday, Kathir Anand further said that the four-wheelers and buses would be allowed on the flyover from July 4 and that heavy vehicles would be allowed after the complete inspection. However, ahead of the inauguration, ADMK's Appu, along with his supporters, had cut the ribbon and reopened the flyover.

On Friday, Kathir Anand reached the spot after Appu left and while addressing the reporters, the DMK MP said that the previous ADMK regime has failed to maintain the flyover, resulting in tar coatings given to the flyover without removing the earlier coating. Anand further said that the failure of maintenance had affected the stability of the bridge.

Kathir Anand stated that the bridge would be closed on July 3 for the remaining work and would be opened for traffic from Monday. As Appu has unilaterally opened the bridge without proper consent, the district revenue officials had filed a complaint against the ADMK's secretary and based on the complaint, the Katpadi police registered a case against Appu under six non-bailable sections after which he was arrested by the police.
