TN reports zero Covid deaths for the third day in a row: Fresh cases plunge below 100!

Tamil Nadu has reported zero Covid deaths on Sunday - March 13, for the third consecutive day and in much relief to the state, the number of fresh cases has also been declining as the state is winning its battle against the pandemic. The state has recorded zero Covid deaths on Friday for the first time in two years and the trend had continued for the third day in a row. 

On Sunday, Tamil Nadu has also recorded Covid cases below 100 for the first time since the second wave of the pandemic as it has reported only 95 cases. The state has recorded 38,023 Covid deaths so far as of Sunday of which 11,078 deaths had occurred between the age category of 61 to 70 and nearly 10% of the deaths had occurred among people aged above 90. 

According to reports, Tamil Nadu Health Minister Ma Subramanian said, "Though the number of cases is reducing in Tamil Nadu, people must continue to be careful as the spread has still not been controlled in the neighbouring states of Kerala and Karnataka. Also, the number of cases is increasing in several countries including Singapore and Malaysia. Covid appropriate behaviour is mandatory for two more months." 

He has appealed to those who are yet to be vaccinated to receive the Covid vaccines and people aged between 15-18 and senior citizens who are due for their second/ booster dose can use the weekly mega vaccination camps to get inoculated. As per the data of the health department, around 1.3 crore people are due for their second dose. 

The district administration and the health authorities have been instructed to ramp up the vaccination drive to cover the people who are yet to receive their second dose. According to the state health department, Tamil Nadu has reported 95 fresh cases, 223 discharges, and zero Covid deaths on Sunday. Overall, the state has recorded 34,51,910 Covid cases so far as of Sunday of which 1,173 are active, 34,12,714 were discharged, and 38,023 have succumbed to the viral infection.
