TN under lockdown: State police collect Rs 21 crore as fine from violators so far!

Ever since the Tamil Nadu government imposed the lockdown across the state in different scales to curb the spread of the COVID-19 viral infection, the government and the police department have been tightly surveilling and patrolling to monitor the movements of people as, along with lockdown, the government has also invoked curfew under section 144, which bans the unnecessary gathering and movements. 

The police department has been ordered to levy penalties and to seize vehicles from the violators who defy the lockdown. With the Himalayan task of monitoring and containing the movements, the Tamil Nadu police, according to the reports, had so far collected Rs 21.26 crore as fine from the violators in the state as of Sunday and the state's law enforcement agency had seized around 6.88 lakh vehicles across the state since the lockdown came into effect. 

The development of series violations has come amid the campaigns and warnings issued by the government directing people to refrain from carrying out unnecessary travels. 

The state of Tamil Nadu has been observing complete lockdowns on Sundays for two months during which only extremely essential services like healthcare services and milk services will be permitted. 

On Sunday- August 23, the state observed a complete lockdown where the busy streets and roads turned empty with no major movements. According to the reports, the district authorities in Virudhunagar, Kancheepuram, and Pudukottai districts had imposed penalties for the meat, fish, and vegetable vendors. 

As of Sunday, Tamil Nadu has reported 3,79,385 cases so far of which 53,541 are active, 3,19,327 have been recovered, and 6,517 had died due to the pandemic. On Sunday alone, the state had reported 5,975 fresh cases, 6,047 fresh discharges, and 97 more deaths.
