TNS Explainer: How you can get Covid-19 vaccination certificate through WhatsApp?

In a significant move of making the process of getting the Covid-19 vaccination certificate easier, the Union government has now introduced a drive of receiving the certificate through WhatsApp with just a message. The move has come when the country has been getting ramped up with the vaccination to beat the pandemic and when India has approved its fifth Covid-19 vaccine. 

On Sunday, Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya's office said that the citizens who have been vaccinated against the Covid-19 can get their vaccination certificate now through WhatsApp within seconds. Mandaviya's office has tweeted, "Revolutionising common man's life using technology! Now get a Covid-19 vaccination certificate through MyGov Corona Helpdesk in three easy steps,"  

The health minister's office further said, "Save contact number: +919013151515. Type & send 'Covid certificate' on WhatsApp. Enter OTP. Get your certificate in seconds." Currently, the people who have received the vaccine must download their vaccination certificate by logging into the CoWin portal. 

According to the Union Health Ministry, 50,68,10,492 Covid vaccine doses have cumulatively been administered in the country through 58,51,292 sessions till 7 am on Sunday, with 55,91,657 doses being given a day. On Saturday, nearly 27,55,447 Covid-19 vaccine shots were administered as the first dose and 5,08,616 doses were given as the second dose in the age group of 18-44 years on Saturday. 

Cumulatively, 17,54,73,103 people in the age group of 18-44 years across 37 States/Union Territories have received their first dose and a total of 1,18,08,368 have received their second dose since the start of Phase-3 of the vaccination campaign. According to the health ministry's data, five states -Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat, Rajasthan, Maharashtra, and Uttar Pradesh have administered more than 1 crore cumulative doses of Covid-19 vaccine in the age group 18-44 years. 

The states like Andhra Pradesh, Assam, Delhi, Haryana, Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand, Kerala, Telangana, Himachal Pradesh, Odisha, Punjab, Uttarakhand, and West Bengal have vaccinated over 10 lakh people at the age group of 18 to 44 years for the first dose of the vaccine. India has launched the nationwide vaccination drive on January 16 by concentrating to vaccinate the healthcare workers at the first phase. 

The next phase of the vaccination had begun on March 1 for those above 60 years and above 45 with specific comorbidities. The country has launched the crucial vaccination drive of inoculating the doses for the major populace of people between 18 to 45 on May 1 and in eight months of the launch, India's Covid vaccination coverage had crossed 50 crore on Sunday.
