The teaser of ace director Mani Ratnam's magnum opus 'Ponniyin Selvan' is being loaded for a grand launch in a historical city in Tamil Nadu. The teaser update from the prestigious project has become the talk of the town and as the first part of the movie has been slated for a theatrical release this September, the team's historical voyage has now been centred on the post-production works.
According to reports, the team has decided to launch the teaser at a grand event in Thanjavur to align with the storyline of the movie. 'Ponniyin Selvan' has been made as a historical drama and the film is based on the novel written by Kalki in the same name and is set in the period of the Chola dynasty. The main part of the film has been set in Thanjavur, which is the capital of the Chola dynasty.
In the view of releasing the teaser in the land of the Chola dynasty, the movie team has decided to launch the teaser in Thanjavur and they will also conduct promotions events in the city. The reports in the know say that the teaser would be launched in Thanjavur in the first week of July. The movie team is busy working on the arrangements and it has been expected that the fans can anytime have an official update of the teaser launch.
The movie will be released on September 30 and following the teaser launch, the team has also planned for a world tour to promote the movie. While Mani Ratnam has helmed the iconic project, A R Rahman has composed the music. It's been nearly three years since Mani Ratnam revived the adaption in January 2019, with Lyca Productions bankrolling the dream project of the Tamil cinema industry.
The shooting of the film has been completed and the final stages are underway and it has been reported that by releasing the teaser in Thanjavur, the movie team will be paying the tribute to the Great Chola King Raja Raja Cholan alias Arulmozhi Varman. Ponniyin Selvan has brought an ensemble cast as Chiyaan Vikram, Jayam Ravi, Karthi, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Trisha, Prakash Raj, and Prabhu will be playing important roles.
If we trip down to years back, M.G.R (Puratchi Thalaivar) in 1958, announced 'Ponniyin Selvan', a film adaptation of Kalki Krishnamurthy's historical novel, "Ponniyin Selvan". But it failed after M.G.R met with an accident.
In a January 1994 interview with Filmfare, Mani Ratnam announced he going to make a film adapting the novel of the same. He also worked along with Kamal Hassan on the first draft of his project. Also, that was shelved later. In 2010, He proposed again to resume his same 'dream project' movie with actor 'Vijay' for the leading role. It was again shelved because of the location permissions to shoot.
Witnessing these failed attempts, the film has created a huge fever pitch among fans. Even though some of the fans of the book adaptation of 'Ponniyin Selvan' sharing statements that character selection is not satisfying for them on social media, other readers and non-readers of 'Ponniyin Selvan' alike were thrilled to see the versatile performance of leading film stars.
