The ace maker Mani Ratnam's years of hard work are paying off. The historical multi- starrer 'Ponniyin Selvan 1' is rocking the box office. The film, which did a business of Rs 80 crore on the first day, earned Rs 250+ crore within three days. Now the magnum opus is crossing the Rs 300 crore mark at the box office.

Earlier, in the Vijay-starring film "Sarkar, Bigil" had accomplished that feat in a week. However, "Ponniyin Selvan 1" exceeded Rs 100 crore in just five days, which delighted moviegoers. The film has made up to 170 crores in India, according to film trade reporters. Within five days, the global surpassed Rs 300 crore, and by the end of this week, it will surpass Rs 500 crore, reports strongly speculates.

According to an update shared by Madras Talkies, the epic in Tamil Nadu only brought in Rs. 100 crore and set the record for the "fastest grabber in six days" in the Tamil film industry. In the meantime, Lyca made the official announcement that "Ponniyin Selvan 1" has made Rs. 300 crores worldwide today on Friday by posting on Twitter. The production house states, "Success beyond boundaries! The Mani Ratnam directorial stars Vikram, Karthi, Trisha, Jayam Ravi, and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan in key roles, and Sarathkumar, Prabhu, Lal, Kishore, Ashwin Kakumanu, and Aishwarya Lekshmi in pivotal roles.

With cinematography by Ravi Varman, music for the film was created by music legend AR Rahman. The second part is scheduled for release in 2023 and is backed by Mani Ratnam's own production banner, Madras Talkies, and Allirajah Subaskaran's label Lyca Productions. Ponniyin Selvan was released on 30th September after keeping it as a 'dream project' for Mani Ratnam, for more than 30 years.
