Bollywood filmmaker Karan Johar has announced his next venture as a producer, which is the official remake of the critically acclaimed Tamil film Pariyerum Perumal. The film, directed by Mari Selvaraj, was a hard-hitting drama that explored the caste oppression and violence in rural Tamil Nadu. The film starred Kathir and Anandhi in the lead roles and received rave reviews from critics and audiences alike.

Karan Johar, who is known for his romantic and glamorous films, has reportedly roped in Siddhant Chaturvedi and Tripti Dimri as the lead pair for the Hindi remake. Siddhant Chaturvedi rose to fame with his performance as MC Sher in Gully Boy, while Tripti Dimri impressed everyone with her role as Bulbbul in the Netflix film of the same name. The two actors are expected to bring a fresh and youthful vibe to the remake.

However, the news of Karan Johar remaking Pariyerum Perumal has irked some fans of the original film, who filling the social media with biased debates as the remake may not seems good to the sensitive and realistic portrayal of caste issues. Some fans have expressed their fear that he will sugarcoat the whole film and dilute its impact. They have also pondering the choice of this film , as the actors there, who do not relate to the oppressed communities premise that the film represents.

The Hindi remake of Pariyerum Perumal is expected to go on floors in the second half of 2023. The title and other details of the project are yet to be revealed. Karan Johar is currently busy with his directorial venture Rocky Aur Rani Ki Prem Kahani, starring Alia Bhatt and Ranveer Singh, which is slated to release on July 28, 2023.
