The two of Tamil cinema's biggest stars, Ajith and Vijay, failed to compete at the box office this year with their films Valimai and Beast, respectively. But with their upcoming films Thunivu and Varisu, the duo is ready to make a triumphant box office clash, after 8 years. It has been reported that Ajith's Thunivu will also be getting released on Pongal 2023, alongside the Vijay-starring film Varisu.

As soon as these two superstars lock horns against one another at the box office, there will be fireworks like never before seen. When the popular trade analyst first caught wind of the situation, he predicted that the upcoming battle between Thunivu and Varisu would be "the biggest box office clash in the history of Tamil Cinema."

Both movies will likely open on January 12th, though this has not been officially announced. However, talk of First Day First Show (FDFS) screenings of both films has only just begun to circulate. It is more likely that the first show time of "Thunivu" will air on January 12 at 1 a.m., while the premiere of "Varisu" is expected to air at around 5 a.m., according to reliable sources.

Apparently, the venues are being heavily policed to prevent AK and Thalapathy fans from engaging in any sort of physical clashes. As a result, the first few screenings of both the films will also be planned around these considerations. While the first single of Varisu 'Ranjithame' has been a top trend, the makers of Thunivu are preparing to release its first single.

Thunivu is bankrolled by Boney Kapoor under his banner Bayview Projects, it is helmed by H Vinoth. Ghibran is composing the music while Ajith and Manju Warrier are playing the lead roles. On the other hand, Dil Raju is Varisu's producer, and Vamshi Paidipally and Thaman have taken care of the film's direction and music, respectively. Vijay and Rashmika Mandanna play the lead roles in the movie, with a large cast of other actors filling out the supporting cast.
