The fans are gearing up for a mega clash of the Titans this December. Two of the biggest stars of Indian cinema, Kamal Haasan and Rajinikanth, will lock horns at the box office with the re-release of their respective films, Aalavandhan and Muthu. Both films are original Tamil hits, which were released in the late 1990s and early 2000s.

Aalavandhan, directed by Suresh Krishna, is a psychological action thriller that features Kamal Haasan in dual roles, as twin brothers Vijay and Nandu. Vijay is a commando who falls in love with a news presenter, Tejaswini (Raveena Tandon), while Nandu is a paranoid schizophrenic who escapes from a mental asylum and tries to kill her, mistaking her for his abusive stepmother.

The film is based on a novel written by Kamal Haasan himself, titled Dhayam. The film also stars Manisha Koirala, Sarath Babu, Gollapudi Maruti Rao, and Milind Gunaji in supporting roles. The film was originally released on 14 November 2001 and received critical acclaim for its technical aspects, especially the special effects, for which it won the National Film Award. Now the film is once again to rock screens by re releasing on 8th December 2023, worldwide.

Muthu, directed by K. S. Ravikumar, is a commercial drama film that stars Rajinikanth as Muthu, a loyal charioteer working for a zamindar, Raja Malayasimman (Sarath Babu). Raja falls in love with an actress, Ranganayaki (Meena), but she loves Muthu instead. The film also involves a murder plot and a hidden family secret that changes the lives of the characters.

The film also features Radha Ravi, Senthil, Vadivelu, Jayabharathi, Subhashri, and Ponnambalam in supporting roles. The film was originally released on 23 October 1995, and became a blockbuster hit, running for over 175 days in theatres.

The film also became a sensation in Japan, where it was dubbed as Muthu Odoru Maharaja (Muthu – The Dancing Maharaja) and grossed over $3 million. The film also won several awards for Rajinikanth’s performance, including the Tamil Nadu State Film Award and the Cinema Express Award for Best Actor.

Both films are considered cult classics by the fans of Kamal Haasan and Rajinikanth, who are known for their off-screen friendship and on-screen rivalry. The re-release of these films is expected to create a huge buzz among the audience, who have been eagerly waiting to watch their favourite stars on the big screen after a long gap.

The films are scheduled to hit the screens on 8 December 2023. The films will be distributed by Sivasakthi Movie Makers, who have acquired the rights from the original producers, Kavithalayaa Productions and V. Creations.
