The Tamil film industry is gearing up for a big clash this July, as two of the most anticipated films of the year are set to release on the same day. Dhruva Natchathiram, the spy thriller directed by Gautham Vasudev Menon, has been in the making for a decade, and has faced several hurdles and delays.

The film was initially announced in 2013 with Suriya in the lead role, but was shelved due to creative differences between the actor and the director. Now the latest report is that the film starring Vikram, Ritu Varma and Aishwarya Rajesh, will lock horns with Maaveeran, the action entertainer starring Sivakarthikeyan and directed by Madonne Ashwin.

The Vikram starrer was once again revived in 2016 with Vikram playing the role of a secret agent who goes on a mission to rescue his mentor. The film was shot in seven countries, and features music by Harris Jayaraj. The film is expected to release on July 14, 2023, after completing its post-production work

Manoj Paramahamsa, Jomon T. John, and Santhana Krishnan and Ravichandran shot the film, while Praveen Antony edited it. The film centers on an undercover spy named John and his crew in New York are given a top-secret assignment to find and rescue their missing commander.

Maaveeran, on the other hand, is a relatively fresh project that was launched in 2022. The film marks the first collaboration between Sivakarthikeyan and Madonne Ashwin, who previously directed the hit film Mandela.  The film is slated to release on July 14, 2023, coinciding with Sivakarthikeyan’s birthday.
