Trouble mounts for Kishore K Swamy...Chennai police slap Goondas Act against the BJP supporter!

BJP supporter Kishore K Swamy has been caught in mounting trouble as the sequel of a pile of cases against him. Swamy, who is a self-proclaimed political activist, was arrested by the Chennai police on June 14 for circulating obscene posts against former Chief Ministers of Tamil Nadu CN Annadurai and M Karunanidhi and incumbent MK Stalin. He has been lodged in a prison in judicial custody and nearly a fortnight after his arrest, Chennai police have on Friday slapped the Goondas Act on the BJP supporter.

The detention of Kishore K Swamy under the Goondas Act has come after several complaints were filed against him. He was arrested on June 14 based on a complaint from the DMK IT wing coordinator of the Kancheepuram district against Swamy over his derogatory posts on Twitter. Swamy had flayed the DMK government to allow women priests to conduct poojas in the temple.

He was taken under judicial custody for this complaint but several complaints against him had followed. According to reports, the police had filed at least eight other cases against Swamy based on complaints of harassment. Several women journalists had moved their complaints to the police over Swamy's obscene and abusive remarks against them, which further gripped the case against the BJP supporter.

After the arrest on June 14, Kishore was further arrested in two more cases. As per the recommendation of the Central Crime Branch, Chennai Police Commissioner Shankar Jiwal had invoked the Goondas Act against Kishore K Swamy on Friday. The Goondas Act allows the authorities to perform preventive detention of habitual offenders. As per the Goondas Act, no bail will be granted till the detention order is cancelled by the court.

As the police had slapped Goondas Act against Swamy, it is less likely that he will walk out of prison. Speaking to the media, a police official said that as Kishore K Swamy's activities are perpetual and in a manner that can breach social order, he has been detained under the Goondas Act today (Friday). Earlier, Kishore K Swamy was booked under section 153 - provoking with intent to cause a riot, section (1)(b) - causing fear or alarm to the public, and section (1)(c) - whoever spreads communal rumours of the Indian Penal Code.

It must be noted that in 2020, the Tamil Nadu Women Journalists Forum had moved its complaint to the then Chief Minister Edappadi Palaniswami by stating that Kishore K Swamy had deliberately been attacking women journalists on social media and posting abusive posts along with indulging in character assassination of the women journalists. Swamy was arrested in October 2019 and July 2020 on the charges of harassing women journalists on social media. However, he was later released on bail in both events.
