Two reasons why Thala Ajith has picked Pongal 2022 for 'Valimai' release!

For the ardent fans of Ajith, the massive announcement from 'Valimai' makers on Wednesday has become a big surprise and delight as what they were expecting was the update of the movie's teaser and what had come is the official release date of the movie. Boney Kapoor has sparked a celebration for the fans through his announcement that the much-awaited 'Valimai' will hit the big screens during Pongal 2022. With the official update, Ajith will be relishing his fans on big screens after three years.

While the fans had gone agog over the release date and begun trending the movie name on social media, a section of them went perplexed on why Ajith has picked Pongal 2022 for the movie release. Earlier, it was strongly speculated that Valimai will join the Diwali race this year with Rajinikanth's starred 'Annaatthee' and Simbu starred 'Maanaadu'. However, clearing the clouds of speculations, Valimai has been slated for release during Pongal 2022 by skipping two important occasions - Diwali and Christmas.

The sources in the know had said that behind this decision of picking next year's Pongal for the release, lies two significant reasons based on which Ajith had asked the movie team to quit the Diwali race. Producer Boney Kapoor has planned to release the movie on Diwali and his plan had eventually gone vain as Ajith has expressed his opinion to the producer not to release the movie on the same date when Rajinikanth's 'Annaathee' is going to get released. Ajith had reminisced what had happened during Pongal 2019.

In 2019, Rajini starred 'Petta' and Ajith starred 'Viswasam' had released on the same date and the clash between the legends had stirred a war of words between the ardent fans of both the actors. They exchanged heated words on social media under the guise of showing allegiance to their favourite actors. Besides this, the distributors and theatre owners had also raised concerns that these clashes of big star movies would affect them financially and trigger ruckus between the fans. As Covid-19 is still rampant, it has become a point of concern for the various stakeholders that the release of top star movies would invite a larger crowd towards the theatres.

While deciding not to clash with Rajinikanth was one reason behind Ajith's decision, the other one being that Annatthee is directed by Siva, who is a close friend of Ajith. Siva had directed Ajith several times in a row through the movies including 'Veeram', 'Vivegam, and 'Viswasam'. The sources say that these two are the major reasons that Ajith has stood in his affirmation to release Valimai on Pongal 2022.  As Ajith was against the Diwali release, the production team has considered releasing the movie during Christmas, New Year, and Pongal.

After strong consideration, the movie team has picked Pongal 2022 for releasing Valimai. It has been reported that the teaser of Valimai will be released on Thursday. Boney Kapoor took to social media and wrote, "Happy to announce that #Valimai will hit the screens on Pongal 2022." Though Boney Kapoor had shared the official release, he is yet to divulge the exact date of the release. If the predictions of the sources were to be believed, the movie will hit the screens on January 14th, 2022, on the occasion of Pongal and if the Covid-19 pandemic didn't pose a much bothering, the fans will relish seeing Ajith on the big screens after three years.

Bankrolled by Boney Kapoor under the banner of Bayview Projects and directed by H Vinoth, Valimai stars Ajith in the lead role while Huma Qureshi, Yogi Babu, Pavel Navageethan, Bani J, and Pugazh in important roles. Yuvan Shankar Raja has composed the music while Nirav Shah and Vijay Velukutty had done cinematography and editing respectively. As Valimai is out of the Diwali race, it is now most likely confirmed that Rajini's 'Annaatthe' and Simbu's 'Maanaadu' will be clashing for Diwali.
