The former actor Udhayanidhi Stalin will be seen in Mari Selvaraj’s political drama Maamannan, featuring Keerthy Suresh, Fahadh Faasil, and Vadivelu in pivotal roles. The film, which wrapped up its shooting in September 2022, is now gearing up for a grand theatrical release. Maamannan is his last release as an actor, as he became the State Minister of Sports and Youth Welfare, and has been actively campaigning for his party in various elections.

According to the latest sources, the makers of Maamannan are planning to release the film on June 29, 2023, coinciding with the festival of Bakrid. The film will face stiff competition from other big releases - Sivakarthikeyan's Maaveeran, and Hombale's Dhoomam, which also have Fahadh in the lead, and are slated for the same date.

Maamannan marks the third directorial venture of Mari Selvaraj, who rose to fame with his critically acclaimed films Pariyerum Perumal and Karnan. The film revolves around the life of politicians and their power struggles. Fahadh Faasil plays the role of the antagonist and Udhayanidhi’s father in the film, while Vadivelu plays Udhayanidhi’s mentor, as per reports where Keerthy Suresh plays the female lead and Udhayanidhi’s love interest.

The film has music composed by AR Rahman, who recently shared that he is working on the background score of the film. The cinematography is handled by Theni Eswar and the editing by Selva RK. The film is produced by Udhayanidhi’s own banner Red Giant Movies.

Maamannan is expected to be a hard-hitting and realistic portrayal of the political scenario in Tamil Nadu. The film will also showcase the comeback of Vadivelu, who has been away from the silver screen for a long time. The fans await this fresh trio - Udhayanidhi, Mari Selvaraj, and AR Rahman. Theni Eswar handles the cinematography and Selva RK edits the film, and Raveena Ravi is also playing a key role in the movie.
