Veerappan, the name that blends with popularity and mystery, is one of the profiles that drove a decade-long conflict with the Indian law enforcement mechanism and is one of the notorious criminals in the country, whose life offers us no dearth of twists and turns. Regarded as a poacher, smuggler, and forest brigand, Veerappan has dominated the forest areas of three South Indian states - Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, and Kerala, for over three decades.

Veerappan was most-spoken about in Tamil Nadu during the early 2000s and was killed in 2004 at the age of 52 by the Tamil Nadu Special Task Force (STF) that functioned during the Jayalalithaa regime in the state. While Veerappan's life traverses through atrocities and tortures committed by the task force on the tribal people under the guise of searching Veerappan, it also takes us to very few people who closely followed and travelled with him and revealed his story to the outer world.

Nakkheeran Gopal is one of such few people who travelled closely with Veerappan as an emissary of the state governments of Tamil Nadu and Karnataka to release the hostages kidnapped by the forest brigand. Gopal is a prominent journalist and editor-in-chief of Nakkheeran, that is into investigative journalism in Tamil Nadu for over three decades.

From bringing out nine forest officers from the jungle to freeing the iconic Kannada actor Rajkumar from the hands of Veerappan, Gopal has a lot to say about his experience with Veerappan and after recording it through the print media, he is now sharing an untold story of Veerappan on a larger screen, which is expected to break the stereotyped talks across and beyond the borders.

In the midst of a slew of stories about Veerappan, a new web-series is all set to unravel Veerappan's journey by bringing never-before-seen video tapes to light. In what has become a long-awaited web series, it has been titled 'Koose Munisamy Veerappan', the birth name of the forest brigand. Produced by Dheeran Productions, which is Nakkheeran's venture, the documentary series is helmed by Sharath Joshi.

'Koose Munisamy Veerappan' premieres on December 8, directly on Zee5. The trailer of the web-series was released on Thursday - November 23 and has earned a huge reception. Along with Nakkheeran Gopal, several prominent figures including Naam Tamilar Katchi's chief Seeman are sharing their perspectives about Veerappan in a first-of-its-kind grouping.

Interestingly, the trailer, that runs for a little over two minutes, was released by popular actor Suriya and takes us deep into the woods and delves into the lives of mysterious master and his men. Suriya released the trailer on social media and he wrote, "This riveting docu series makes me want to know more. Congrats to the whole crew behind this project. Special mention to Nakkheeran Team."

Presenting you all the first glimpse of what I have been working on for the past one-and-a-half years. Never in my wildest dreams I thought my first project will be a true crime docu series. A story that has unimaginable plot twists and character dimensions. This show gave me a wonderful experience of being a writer alongside Jeyachandra Hashmi and Vasanth Balakrishnan. Editing the show for the past one year has also been part of intense writing. I believe all that has come out as a wonderfully gripping docu series."

"I have more to write about this show in the upcoming weeks. But for now, I am immensely happy and grateful to have Koose Munisamy Veerappan as my first directorial. Thanks a lot Suriya sir for being the light", he added. Nakkheeran was instrumental and indeed first news journal to reveal Veerappan's face to the world and the trailer of this docu series carries a segment of a video in which Veerappan says, "I am sharing to the people about my life and you have to decide who made the mistake, whether it is me or the government."
