US Elections: Don't celebrate now, results may take days! Why and when can we expect?

The race to chase down the magical number of 270 and to take over the reign of the world's powerful country has been intensely getting stronger, pushing the rivals and the country to keep their wait for longer even for days. The reports alarm that the United States may take days to declare the winner, who would be shaping the country for the next four years, hinting that the parties aren't at the right time of having celebrations.

The unprecedented development was directed by the overwhelming postal ballots. While the in-person votes would be counted initially, the postal ballots would come into the picture after that, and since millions of Americans had registered their votes on the postal ballots, the country had seen a surge in the postal mode of voting and the counting of the postal ballots would seemingly buy more time to declare the winner and on the other hand, the crucial rush belt states have also been picturing how hard the battle was fought.

According to the Associated Press, by the time of writing this content, incumbent Donald Trump and Democrat Joe Biden have been in a tug-of-war in chasing the magical number of 270. Biden leads the race by securing 238 electoral votes against Trump who got 213 votes. While Biden painted the key states in the western and eastern coasts blue, Trump had proved his stronghold in the Central states from the Dakotas to Louisiana.

The swing and battlegrounds states are now directing the candidates to face a thin lead. The states like Pennsylvania, Wisconsin, Michigan, North Carolina, and Georgia would largely become the game-changer with the possibilities of changing the game by still keeping the race on fire. The reports say that Trump is leading in Michigan, Georgia, North Carolina, and Pennsylvania while Biden has been leading in Wisconsin.

Crucial decider Florida, where the candidates had one of the tight battles, picked Trump as its choice for President while Biden had a relishing moment in his bid to defeat the incumbent as the former Vice President had bagged Arizona to his count with which Biden has become the second Democratic presidential candidate to win the western state of Arizona since 1996. Previously, Bill Clinton had won in the 1996 Presidential polls.

With both the candidates are claiming to be on the track to victory, the current situation pushes them to wait for some more days as millions of votes remain uncounted. Voters had probably opted for the early mail-in voting owing to the COVID-19 pandemic and the country had reported overwhelming early postal ballots as more than 100 million people had cast their postal ballots before the election day.

In what had become the highest turnout on the postal ballots in a century, it had pushed the country to brace up for more time in counting all the votes and in declaring the winner on whether the 45th POTUS will stay in the White House for four more years or the country would witness the 46th President.

The reports close to the developments say that the country and indeed the world had to wait days and the wait could possibly go on for weeks to know the final election results due to the highest surge in postal ballots. Different states have different rules for how and when to count postal ballots and in some states, it will take weeks to complete the counting to get the final results.

The delay in declaring the election results isn't new to America. The last time, the result was not clear within a few hours was in 2000. The Supreme Court of the United States came into the picture and the result was declared one month after the election day following which George W Bush was sworn-in to the office. According to the exit poll, based on the counted votes, Biden has earned more votes from people of color and from young and new voters between the age category of 18-29 years.

Some reports say that the crucial states like Pennsylvania, Michigan, Wisconsin, and Georgia had halted the vote-counting and the development has come after Donald Trump, while addressing the nation from the White House, had claimed that he had won the election and accused Biden of stealing the election by delaying the counting in the battleground states. The President had vowed that he would approach the Supreme Court and would launch a judicial strike by alleging the grounds of fraud in the democratic process.
