US Elections: Joe Biden surpasses Obama's record and creates history even before the victory!

Amid holding the strong lead in the race of hitting the magical number of 270, Democratic contender Joe Biden has created history and set a clear milestone even before getting the victory in the race to the White House as the former vice president has surpassed his former boss, President Barack Obama after receiving more votes than what the first  African-American president secured in 2008 when he won the first term.

Dubbed as the important election in the lifetime of every American voter, the 2020 presidential election has been keenly watched by the whole world. While it was projected that Joe Biden will take a clear lead against Republican incumbent Donald Trump and will win the presidency, the former Vice President has now set a historical milestone, which his supporters are relishing even before the declaration of final results.

According to the New York Times, Joe Biden has received more than 71 million votes, and still counting, nationwide and overwhelming voter turnout in favor of Biden had made him surpass the vote collected by former President Obama. Barack Obama had received 69, 498,516 (69 million) votes in 2008 and it was highest than any of the former's predecessors and Joe Biden, who served as the Vice-President in the Obama administration, has now got 71 million votes.

With the milestone, Biden has received the most number of votes for any presidential candidate in US history. And it's not the end as the counting of votes in the crucial battleground states like Pennsylvania, Georgia, Michigan, Nevada, Arizona, and Wisconsin are still underway and it has been expected that Biden will bag more millions of votes, keeping himself in the place that any of his successors would find it difficult to reach.

Joe Biden has been leading the race with 253 electoral votes when Trump has got 214 votes. Biden has been getting boosted by the strong lead in the battleground states to win the race and his milestone has been made largely possible by the flawed and uncertain presidency of Donald Trump, brewing national issues like the COVID-19 pandemic, racism, ailing economy, and healthcare. The larger number of black votes had gone to Biden when Trump got a safe side in the Republican safe states.

The COVID-19 pandemic had spurted the early mail-in ballots as many reports revealed that over 100 million voters had cast their ballots through early voting and the news agencies had projected that most numbers of mail-in ballots had and would be favoring Biden and will lubricate his speed to win the race while the incumbent has been concentrating on his rhetoric and false claims that the election is being stolen from him.

With Biden's historical feat, Democrats are pointing out the total vote as evidence that the party continues to represent the majority of the country in presidential elections. The Democrats have won the popular vote in every presidential election since 2000 with the exception of 2004. However, when comparing the number of votes, it becomes inevitable that the population factor must be taken into account.

When Obama had got the most number of votes in 2008, the population of the country was 304 million and when Biden surpassed the former's record in 2020, the country's population is over 330 million.

When the factor of the population is taken into account, Barack Obama had received the votes of a greater percentage of Americans -about 23 percent while Biden has got 22 percent and when Obama has got the higher percentage of the country's registered voters with 48 percent, Biden has got 45 percent.
