Uttar Pradesh CM Yogi Adityanath tests positive for COVID-19!

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has on Wednesday said that he has tested positive for the COVID-19 viral infection. He has become one of the political leaders to contract the pandemic in the second wave that has struck the nation. The development has come days after he had attended the campaign rallies in the five poll-bounding states where he campaigned for the Central ruling BJP. 

According to reports, the Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister has isolated himself on Tuesday after some officials in his contact tested positive for the COVID-19 virus. Taking to Twitter, Yogi Adityanath had on Wednesday said, "After initial symptoms, I got myself tested. My report is positive. I am in self-isolation and following doctors' advice. I am doing all the works virtually."

He had earlier said that some officers who are attached to his office had tested positive for the pandemic and most of them had come in contact with him following which he had decided to isolate himself and discharge his duties digitally. The development has shocked the BJP and the party members and they are expressing their wishes to him for a speedy recovery. 

On the other hand, Yogi's predecessor Akhilesh Yadav had also tested positive for the novel coronavirus on Wednesday. Akhilesh Yadav is the Chief of Samajwadi Party and he took to Twitter and said that he had contracted the viral infection.

He wrote, "My coronavirus test report has come positive. I have isolated myself and started treatment at home. People who have come in contact with me in the past few days get themselves tested. They are requested to stay in isolation for some days."

According to reports, Akhilesh had recently visited Haridwar in Uttarakhand where the Kumbh Mela is going on. He also had met various religious leaders and some of them had already tested positive for the viral infection. The religious festival has emerged to be an epicenter of COVID-19 after hundreds of people in the festival had tested positive for the virus in a single day. 

Uttar Pradesh is one of the states in India to record a heavy caseload of COVID-19 cases. On Tuesday, the state has reported the highest-ever single-day spike of 18,021 COVID-19 cases and 85 fresh deaths. Uttar Pradesh has recorded over 7.20 lakh cases so far as of Tuesday of which 6.18 lakh have been discharged and 9,309 had succumbed to the viral infection.
