With "Naai Sekhar Returns," actor Vadivelu is back in the spotlight after a long drawn hiatus. Suraj directed the movie while Santhosh Narayanan composed the music. The film was released today in theaters on December 9, 2022, where the main plot revolves around Vadivelu, who kidnaps dog owners and uses them as ransom to extract money from them. He unintentionally kidnaps the pet dog of actor Anadaraj one day. The rest of the narrative focuses on Vadivelu and his gang's successful escape.
A part of moviegoers was simply delighted by the venerable actor's comeback and enjoyed the two hours that their idol was on screen. On the other hand, the film appears to have received adequate and neutral reviews.
One of his fans and movie buff writes, "Yours truly is a #Vadivelu fan. But #NaaiSekarReturns was a dud. The initial half-hour is bland. A few jokes hit home. Otherwise, it does not work.Heartbreaking to see his talent being underutilized in films. Don't know why the man keeps settling for less than he deserves."
She adds, "This is an unapologetic leave-your-brains-at-home-and-go-have-a-laugh film. I feel bad for #Vadivelu. Don't know what to say. I trust in #MariSelvaraj and look forward to watching #Maamannan soon."
Written and directed by Suraj, the film Naai Sekar Returns is produced by Lyca Productions, a Subaskaran Allirajah company. The film which is an extension of Suraj's 2006 film Thalai Nagaram, which featured Vadivelu as a supporting actor. Sun TV purchased the satellite rights to the movie, while Netflix purchased the post-theatrical streaming rights.
