Vasan Eye Care founder has passed away in Chennai: Has he committed suicide?

In a shocking development, AM Arun, the founder of the eye hospital chain Vasan Eye Care has passed away in Chennai on Monday. With the reason for his death was not immediately known, the police had launched an investigation into his death and his body was sent to the Omandurar Multispecialty hospital, Chennai for post-mortem to ascertain the reason for the death. 

Arun was 51 and some reports say that he had committed suicide and he was rushed to Kauvery Hospital in Chennai for treatment. However, he was declared brought dead. The reports say that Arun was facing intense pressures from the medicine companies that supplied medicines to his clinics to pay the outstanding dues. He was under deep pressure to clear the payments. 

The investigation has been on under the grounds that whether he had committed suicide after facing more pressures from the companies. Arun was the founder of Vasan Eye Care hospital, which is the reputed chain of hospital having its branches across the country and reached lakhs of people in treating their eyes and concerned ailments. 

Arun was a native of Trichy, Tamil Nadu and he began his career in the healthcare industry by acquiring a medical shop in the district in 1999. Following acquiring the medical shop, he then went on to establish the first eye care hospital in Trichy in 2002, and later, he established many branches and his hospital had emerged as a larger network of over 150 hospitals providing treatment for the eyes across the country.

According to the hospital, it has more than 600 ophthalmologists and over 6,000 staff members. On the other hand, it also got under the radar of the Income Tax department and the hospital was said to have been involved in money dealings of Former Union Minister P Chidambaram and his son Karti Chidambaram in 2015. With the connection of financial dealings, the Income Tax department had conducted raids in Arun's residence in Chennai and Vasan Healthcare's offices in Mylapore in 2015. 

The reports say that Arun had observed close ties with P Chidambaram and he had been under financial crisis for the past few years. Arun was the son of Murugaiah, who was a former Congress MP, served the Karur parliamentary constituency. Besides eye hospital, Arun has also established ABC Multispecialty hospital in Trichy. His eye hospital had grown to be the larger network in India that then Prime Minister Manmohan Singh had inaugurated his eye hospitals. 

Some reports stated that he had a cardiac arrest on the morning hours of Monday at his residence in Alwarpet, Chennai following which he was taken to Kauvery Hospital. However, he was declared brought dead. He was 51 and police had launched a probe into his death.
