The leader of the Desiya Murpokku Dravida Kazhagam (DMDK) party, Vijayakanth, has been hospitalized again on Tuesday night, sparking concerns over his health condition. The 71-year-old actor-turned-politician had undergone treatment at a private hospital in Chennai earlier this month for a respiratory ailment and was discharged after two weeks.

However, according to a medical bulletin issued by the hospital, Vijayakanth’s latest visit was not an emergency, but a routine check-up. The bulletin stated that the DMDK president was in good health and would return home by Thursday, December 28.

Vijayakanth, who is popularly known as ‘Captain’ among his fans and followers, has been keeping a low profile in politics since the 2016 assembly elections, in which his party suffered a major setback. He has also been battling various health issues in the past few years, including diabetes and kidney problems.

His supporters and well-wishers have been praying for his speedy recovery and hoping that he would make a comeback in the political arena soon. Vijayakanth, who is the founder and chief of the DMDK, is one of the prominent opposition leaders in Tamil Nadu and has a loyal fan base among the masses. He has also acted in over 60 films in Tamil, Telugu and Hindi languages.
