Vetrivel Yatra: Khushbu and senior TN BJP leaders got arrested for defying the ban!

Hours after getting caught in an accident, Tamil Nadu BJP leader Khushbu Sundar has got arrested by the Cuddalore police department on Wednesday under the grounds of defying the government orders and taking part in the Vetrivel Yatra organized by the state unit of the Central ruling party. 

BJP is mulling to consolidate the Hindu votes ahead of the assembly polls and the party has launched the Vetrivel Yatra campaign in its drive to cover the larger voter base. The party has planned to start the month-long campaign from November 6 to cover six adobes of Lord Murugan. However, the Tamil Nadu ruling ADMK government has denied permission for BJP to carry on the campaign by citing the spread of COVID-19. 

Despite the government's denial, the BJP leaders had defied the ban and organized the campaign across the state. On November 6, the Tiruvallur police had arrested BJP Tamil Nadu president L Murugan and senior leaders including retired IPS Officer Annamalai for organizing the campaign in Tiruttani, Thiruvallur. The government has also warned the party to adhere to its order and refrain from organizing the campaign. 

However, the BJP leaders have been violating the order and progressing towards the campaign. On Wednesday, the Cuddalore police department had arrested actor turned politician Khushbu, who recently joined BJP, after she came to participate in the Vetrivel Yatra that has been organized in the district. BJP state president Murugan and Annamalai had also got arrested by the police in Cuddalore for leading the campaign against the government's order. 

According to reports, arrested BJP leaders including Murugan, Annamalai, and Khushbu have been locked up in a private marriage hall in Cuddalore. Hours before the arrest, Khushbu had met with an accident near Melmaruvathur in the outskirts of Chennai The shocking incident had happened when she was on her way to Cuddalore to participate in Vetrivel Yatra.

When she was traveling near Melmaruvathur, a tanker had rammed into her vehicle, causing heavy damage to her car. Khushbu took to Twitter and shared photos of the damaged car and asserted that she is safe and not injured. According to reports, Hakeem, the driver of the lorry that hit Khushbu's car, has been arrested and taken under custody for further investigations.
