Viduthalai rocks Rotterdam: Soori, Vijay Sethupathi and Vetrimaaran receive a rousing reception at IFFR!

The Tamil action period thriller Viduthalai, directed by Vetrimaaran and starring Soori and Vijay Sethupathi, has created a sensation at the International Film Festival Rotterdam (IFFR) 2024. The film, which is based on a short story by writer Jeyamohan, revolves around a police constable who becomes a vigilante after a life-changing encounter with a rebel leader.

The film, which is divided into two parts, was screened at the prestigious festival yesterday and received a standing ovation from the audience. The Red Giant Movies, the production house behind the film, took to X, shared a video clip of the ecstatic crowd cheering and clapping for the film. They also shared a photo of the lead actors and the director mingling with the audience after the show.

The film, which has music by the legendary Ilaiyaraaja, has been praised for its gritty realism, intense action sequences, and powerful performances by Soori and Vijay Sethupathi. The film also features  in pivotal roles.

The makers have also announced that they are working on a sequel to the film, which will continue the story of the constable and the rebel leader. The sequel is expected to go on floors soon and will be released later this year. The film boasts of a stellar cast that includes Soori, Vijay Sethupathi, Bhavani Sre, Gautham Menon, Chethan, Rajiv Menon, Prakash Raj, Manju Warrier and Surya Vijay Sethupathi.

Viduthalai is one of the few Indian films that have been selected for screening at the IFFR, which is one of the largest and most influential film festivals in the world.  The film is yet to be released in the state, but the buzz created by its international premiere has raised the expectations of the fans and the critics alike. Viduthalai is likely to hit the screens in India in the next few months.
