Vijay's 'Master' clash: Strong decision from producer vs staunch demand from theaters!

While the news of Vijay's 'Master' premiere on the OTT had relished the fans, it had stirred major disappointments and objections from the theater owners who now staunchly demand the movie maker to defer the decision of releasing the movie on Amazon Prime.

Master has released in the theaters on January 13 during the Pongal Holidays. With the massive reception and celebrations, the movie with a budget of over Rs 140 crore has grossed over Rs 200 crore and continues to dominate the box office worldwide within three weeks of its release. However, the movie producer has unfolded the decision which would have left the fans to go agog but at the same time, it would also drive the theaters to witness a halt and a sudden setback in their revenue corridors.

Amid being well received by the fans and audiences in the theaters since day one, the production house of 'Master' has on Tuesday officially announced that the movie will be released on Amazon Prime OTT on January 29. The announcement has made Master, which is the first big release in Tamil Nadu after the lockdown, become the movie to get released on OTT in a short time while it has been running in thousands of theaters.

When the announcement of the OTT release had relished the fans to welcome 'Master' to their homes, the theaters had objected to the producer in their bid to not miss the movie from the theaters and the producer has been filed with the demands of deferring the move of releasing the movie on OTT. According to a news agency, the president of Tamil Nadu Theater and Multiplex owners said that they are conducting talks with the producer of the movie concerning the release on OTT platforms.

The president said that they had demanded the movie producer to delay the release of the movie in the OTT when it's been only two weeks since the movie got released on the big screens. The Theater Owners Association had expressed their hope that the producer would pay heed to their demands of deferring the release on the OTT.  According to reports, amid the demands from the theater association, the movie producer is yet to announce whether the OTT release of Master will be postponed.

With that, the reports say that the producers will highly likely be standing with their decision of releasing the movie on Amazon OTT on January 29. Master is produced by Xavier Britto under the banners of XB Film Creators and directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj. Vijay plays the lead role and Vijay Sethupathi plays the antagonist. While Malavika Mohanan plays the female lead, Andrea Jeremiah, Shanthanu Bhagyaraj, Arjun Das, and Gauri Kishan play important roles with Anirudh has composed the music.

Speaking about Master's release, Vijay Subramaniam,  who is the Director and Head, Content, Amazon Prime Video India said that the company is glad to have the opportunity to bring one of the most anticipated Tamil movies of the year Master to the Prime members in India and across 240 countries. The official Twitter handle of Amazon Prime had asserted that the movie will be released on January 29.
