While everyone's focus was on Vignesh Shivan as the ultimate star joined for AK62, reports surfaced on the internet claiming that the director had logged off from the project, and a popular director who previously worked with Ajith to sign in. The rumour mill also claims that Ajith made the switch in order to compete with the excitement surrounding Vijay's upcoming film, Thalapathy 67.

Filmmaker Vishnuvardhan known for the commercial smash hits in ealry 2010s such as Arinthum Ariyamalum, Pattiyal, Billa, Sarvam, and Arrambam to helm the actor's next film after Thunivu. Earlier it was buzzed that director Atlee to direct Ajith's Ak63, but now the strong reports it may likely to be for Ak62. However few reports claims that it's all rumors, and it in a week or two it will be confirmed officially about the director of Ak62.

It's worth noting that the director still lists the AK62 project in his bio on his social media handle, where he keeps a list of his directorials. Lyca Productions will be in charge of producing AK 62, and Anirudh will be responsible for composing the score as per earlier reports. And Arvind Swamy was rumored to play the villain and Santhanam to play a supporting role. Santhanam and Ajith were previously worked in Veeram, and this will be second colloboration for Arvind Swami in working with Ajith. They had worked together for Paasamalargal in 1994.

Since Ajith is a big name in Kollywood, and Vignesh Shivan is known for his softcore films aimed at a younger audiences, fans are anticipating Ajith's 62nd film will showcase their favorite star in a new style. Vishnuvardhan, on the other hand, established his name in the industry with films like Billa and Aarambam that were both huge box office hits. However if the rumor of Atlee came to be true, this would be his first time working with Ajith Kumar despite his three previous collaborations with Thalapathy Vijay.
