In an exciting development, to unfold the valorous pages of history, director R Aravintha Raj is steering the creation of a film titled 'Veeramangai Velu Nachiyar.' This endeavour serves as the acting debut for Ayisha, who steps into the spotlight, portraying the iconic role of India's first woman freedom fighter, Velu Nachiyar.

Adding a touch of musical brilliance to this historical narrative is none other than the acclaimed composer, AR Rahman. Interestingly, the producer of this cinematic tribute is none other than JM Bashir, known for his portrayal of Pasumpon Muthuramalinga Thevar in the movie 'Desiya Thalaivar.'

In a fascinating twist, Bashir himself plays a significant character, Periya Maruthu, in this retelling of Velu Nachiyar's saga. Notably, Ayisha, who takes on the mantle of the courageous freedom fighter, is none other than Bashir's daughter.

Under the banner of Trends Cinemas, JM Bashir officially launched the film on a noteworthy day at Thevar Mahal in T Nagar, Chennai. Reflecting on this ambitious project, Bashir expressed pride in bringing Velu Nachiyar's biography to the silver screen. He remarked, "We are very proud to bring Velu Nachiyar's biography to the screen. It is a great pleasure to have my daughter Ayisha in the lead role."

J Sridhar, entrusted with cinematography, and Miracle Michael, handling the stunts, add their expertise to ensure that 'Veeramangai Velu Nachiyar' captures the essence of this historical narrative with precision and visual splendour.

Velu Nachiyar, born on 3 January 1730, was the ruler of Sivaganga from c. 1780–1790. She was the first woman in India to lead a rebellion against the British East India Company. The Tamils called her Veeramangai, meaning “brave woman”. She allied with Hyder Ali, the Maruthu Brothers, and other local leaders to fight the British. She was honoured with a postage stamp on 31 December 2008. She succeeded her husband as the king of Sivaganga and reigned for a decade.
