Viral story: DMK MP Kanimozhi becomes first politician in Tamil Nadu to get this recognition!

DMP MP and party's deputy general secretary, Kanimozhi has become the first politician in Tamil Nadu to receive a 'grey tick' recognition from Twitter. The development has come days after Elon Musk-led Twitter had faced backlash for removing the blue checkmarks from the accounts of notable personalities.

Following the backlash, Twitter reinstated the blue checkmarks for the accouts that have over one million followers and the micro-blogging site has also revived the gold and grey ticks. While the gold ticks denote the official business accounts, the grey tick in an account indicates that the account represents a government institution, official or multilateral organization.

Several leaders including Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman have grey ticks for their accounts. In line with that, DMK MP Kanimozhi has also got 'grey tick' recognition for her account and it has been reported that she is the first politician in Tamil Nadu to get grey tick.

Following Kanimozhi, a handful of leaders including Tamil Nadu Congress MP Jothimani has also received such recognition. It is pertinent to note that on April 21, Twitter began removing legacy blue ticks from the accounts that are being used by popular people, including Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin, actors Rajinikanth and Shah Rukh Khan, and cricketers MS Dhoni and Virat Kohli.

On April 23, Twitter began to reinstate the blue ticks back to the accounts. While Twitter has introduced subscription-based blue tick verification, the company offered the blue ticks at free of cost to several accounts that have over one million followers. The individual users in India will have to pay Rs 900 a month  to get blue tick verification.
